DVD burner will play but not burn
I recently built my first computer and everything
was smooth. Now I'm having problems with my DVD burner. I have a brand
new Lite On LH-20A1S model drive. Before this one I had a brand new LG
GSA-H62NK. Both drives will read and play dvds but won't burn them. I
also have a DVD CD/RW drive that works perfectly plays dvds and music
and burns music. The two drives that I'm having trouble with are both
SATA while the other drive that works is a IDE drive. I'm thinking that
may have something to do with the problem but I can't find anything in
the BIOS that looks like it would have an effect.
When I attempt to burn a DVD with Nero 7 or 8 "tried both" the process starts and it will stay on 1% for about 15 minutes then it comes up and says
generating high compatibility borders
successful generating high compatibility borders
then it says burn process failed at 18x.
I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2, AMD Athlon 4000+ Processor 2.41 Ghz, 1GB ram, DFI nF4 Ultra-D MoBo.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks in advance.

- I have a Matshita UJ-850D Internal DVD drive as well as a LG External DVD drive both will play CD/DVD record only CD have tried uninstalling and re-installing drivers but it didn't work. Any other suggestions would be appreciated - jvidro584Sep 16, 2008
- I have a DVD BURNER Hewlett Packard. It will burn cd's ok & play dvds ok l but when i go to burn to DVD it only goes to 1% some times it will go higher e.g 37% But freeze before burn completes. What is the best way to resolve this problem and what could be the cause of this problemKind regards

in device manager... remove ide controllers.. all of them.
reboot an it reinstalls automatic then retry..
also make sure burner is master on ide and reader is slave... if not try burner by itself as master and see what happens. there was a bug of xp and intel sata sometimes writing then it was blank.. slaved burner on secondary when sata present or something to that point.

try this... i hope this one works...
1. Go to registry
2. Link: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINES/SYSTEM/CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3. Check if there is LowerFilters
4. If there is none, create a Multi String Value and name it "LowerFilters"
5. Right click on it then choose "Modify"
6. Put in "PxHelp20"
7. Close the registry and restart the computer
