Question about Motorola Mobility V170

I washed it!

I have now washed my 3rd V170. Rather than buying a brand new one, is there any way to fix this last one ... new battery, new SIM, or is it just a lost cause? Thank you for any help.

Not necessarily a lost cause!!! Open it up by taking out battery and all screws. Carefully pull out insides and gently dry out everything inside, electronics, etc. using a blow dryer on low setting. Put it all back together and give it another try. This has worked on a couple phones I've dropped in water. Won't always work, depends on whether or not phone shorted while it was powered on. good luck. This also works well on tv remotes that have been spilled on. They almost always clean up well and work!

I have a tracphone motorola V170. The flip door broke. Can I buy a new motorola phone not a v170 and transfer the sim card?

Ah, I am a former tracfone customer, and the v170 phone was my first model. :) . Unfortunately no, because all of tracfone's phone models use a different sim card, even if you attempted to replace the sim card with an identical phone it would not work, the phone simply reads, UNREGISTERED SIM CARD. Its tracfone's way of making money, so unfortunately you'll have to put in your contacts all by hand :( which is a major pain in the rear.

I have a Motorola W260G Tracfone and I'm getting a "Restricted Number - 34" message all of a sudden. What is this about?

Had a similar problem on my V170. Remove the battery and the sim card. Using a q-tip dampened (not dripping wet) with rubbing alcohol, clean the metallic side of the sim card and allow to air-dry, then wipe once more with a dry q-tip. Do the same for the metal terminals in the sim card slot if visible. Go ahead and clean the battery's contacts and the ones in the phone while you're there. Put it all back together and try again. This will fix most sim-card problems as long as there's no physical damage.
Good Luck

Absolutely, what you need to do first though, is have your IMEI and SIM serial numbers handy from the first phone. Simply push the center, round button in the middle of the top array, and it should open to Prepaid, select that and go to the 2cd option which is IMEI and select that, and write down that number. Then do the same thing with the 3rd option, which is SIM. Once you have those 2 numbers in hand, do the same ith your new phone. Once done, call the 1 800 number for your area and speak with a represenative and they will walk you through the rest of the proscess and add your existing minutes to your new phone.

How long have you had the battery? Also did you buy a 'new' or 'reconditioned' phone. In theory they should both work the same way, but you never know. The V170 has a short battery life, that's a known issue. Is the connector on the battery okay on both the phone connection and to the battery side? Need more info though hopefully these suggestions might give you more things to look at!

Phonebook says "try later"

The only thing I've found that helps is to proceed as if direct dialing. Enter (1) digit then end. You can then get to your phone book etc. I've had (2) V170 and had the same issue with both.
