Get NO SIGNAL on Acer M1640~Monitor is Fine~Is CPU

My Acer Aspire M1640 was working fine then all of a sudden it won't "connect" to the monitor. Only displays "No Signal". Shows NOTHING at start up. Doesn't make the BEEP it used to at start up. Check another monitor does same thing..... nothing. Changed out cords to monitor no luck. Opened computer but I honestly don't know what anything is. There was 2 large cards in slots... I removed and replaced to make sure secure. Still nothing. HELP! I need the Acer computer for work!

I get nothing.... just "No Signal"

  • michigang876 Jun 28, 2009

What do I clean the contacts & slots with? To "blow the dust" what should I use? We have TONS of dust (live in the ciountry on a dirt road) and there is dust all over the back of one of the fans. Literally chunks of dust! Thanks!

  • michigang876 Jun 28, 2009

Well... I will try the dusting. Yes, it is on a powersurge.... a good one. I have read a lot about the video card coming loose? Where is that to check? Also, if it is the motherboard.... is that an end all to the system? To replace usually how much in cost? The computer is less than a year old and I treat it well.... with the exception of the dust. Would it help to connect it to the HDMI instead of the VDA connection? Thanks for everyone's help!

  • michigang876 Jun 28, 2009

Did the dusting thing... no luck.

  • michigang876 Jun 28, 2009

Any other ideas? Please? Is there any chance the HDMI cable would work as opposed to the VDA? And how can I locate the video card?

Try removing the system memory and clean the brass contacts and the slots it goes into, then reseat the memory and try to boot again, the memory looks like this >>>>>>>

What you need is vacuum cleaner with a pipe attachment and a soft, clean, dry paintbrush.
Remove the powercord from the back of the PC.
Start by removing the ram and clean the contacts with the brush, turn the vacuum on and gently brush the dusty components including the fans, the CPU fan, the metal heat sink under the CPU fan and the bottom of the case, as your removing the dust place the nozzle of the attachment near to the area your cleaning make sure you touch the nozzle on any of the components, pay particular attention to the memory slots.
When your done reseat the memory and the power supply and try to boot again.

    Good luck

Sorry DON'T touch any components with the nozzle.

If the machine is under a year old have you thought of taking advantage of the warranty and send it in for repair?

Your computer isn't functioning then. If you have reseated all the cards you can but you "honestly don't know what anything is" you have done all you can and it is time to take the computer to a shop for testing. You have a bad component somewhere, power supply, video card, memory, or motherboard. The only other thing you can try on your own is blowing all dust from the system. Are you using a UPS/surge protector? Have you had any recent electrical surges?

You blow it with compressed air. You can buy it at any office supply place, Best Buy, Office Max, Office Depot. It's not likely to fix your problem but you could get lucky and it is cheap to try. http://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-canned-a...

No input signal on monitor-not connected to tv-computer works fine except for the no input signal

no input or signal means that the monitor is not receiving any signal from the CPU and if the power light is amber then and the cpu works fine then there could be a problem with the cable connecting the CPU and the monitor ...check the cable.

Reset the cmos usualy a jumper, or remove the batery for 10 min, it might be a videocard problem, try another videocard. It might be a memoryproblem.
If you hear bleeds google for biosbeebs and that will show you wich bleeb is what error.
If all else fails change processor and powersuply or finaly the motherboard.

My acer aspire m1640 crashed and now when i turn it on nothing happens the monitor says no signal

Sound like a bad motherboard. You are getting the error because no signal is been sent to the monitor. Make sure the memory is inserted properly and firmly. Check all other cards and plugs are all inserted and firmly sitted. and try to boot the system, if nothing stll happen, you may have a bad motherboard

Aces Aspire M1640 desktop-pc starts but the monitor says NO SIGNAL. Tried various monitors and videocards without result. Can't find what mainbord is in it to have it changed. Regards, Toine

black out can be caused by series of things. Power supply is one. Second is the motherboard, memory and the processor aside from the video card. Motherboard and processor can be isolated, first is to remove the rest of the devices such as hard disk and cards and memory. Beep sound means your board is still doing fine. Re install all the devices and power on again. Good luck

Monitor freezing and screen crackling.

Sounds to me like your graphics processor is overheating, or possibly the cpu. Are any of these components new? you may want to make sure that they have proper cooling. On the other hand if its a few years old, may jus need to replace the overheating component.
