Question about Canon PowerShot S500 IXUS 500 Digital Camera
This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:

Hi anyone with any ideas would be gratefully recieved. I have an ixus 500 but it appears that the shutter is stuck. I can view other cf cards on the camera but i have no screen image and appear to be taking plain grey pictures. thanks in advance
