If you have the user manual, please go to page 69, and it is explained in detail how to change the resolution of the still pictures.

If you don't have it, you can access Canon web site and in the support section, look for your camera model, and you can download the electronic PDF user manual.

Anyway, here are the steps in short version:

1. Press the Func./Set button.
2. Use the up or down arrow buttons to selec the bottom option that is L .
3. Use the right or left arrow buttons to the change the setting to different options of resolution (in same page 69 there is a table with different resolution options, picture sizes, and notes about recommendations for it).
4. Press the button Func/Set to save the new setting.

Best regards,

SOURCE: camera says card is locked canon powershot sx100

"Card is locked" usually means that the little write protect switch on an SD card has been set to stop the card being written to. Seems unlikely that it would happen to two cards in a row, but it is worth checking this.

Sd card is 32m it is only giving 12 images

A 32mb SD card doesn't have a large capacity - depending on the resolution (megapixels) of the camera, a different amount of pictures can be stored. Below is a link to a page that can help you determine what size is right for you.

At first pics were good, now they are grainy.

I would check to see if the resolution may have been changed inadevertenly. Grine in most cases result at very low resolution settings.....increase the quality of the image and reshoot to see if this improve the photos...good luck.

Adjusting Pictures Resolution

you use the function button while in camera mode and scroll to the image size then turn the function dial to change it. you should consider taking your photos on the higest resolution, however, because SD cards are very cheap and you can get 8GB cards for under $40. Your camera came with a 32MB card which is tiny--you should throw it away. 8GB will store hundreds of 9 megapixel photos--i recommend having at least two SD cards. i hope this helps.

Canon PowerShot SX100 IS Digital Zoom

Hey NachesLady,
If the option to turn your digital zoom on or off is grayed out then the mode you have the camera set to does not allow changes to that option in that mode. I would try changing to another mode and see if the option is still grayed out. That being said I would NEVER use the digital zoom feature. All a digital zoom does is electronically crop the image in the camera which can be done easier and better once the images are uploaded to your computer. Digital zoom usually produces images of greatly reduced quality. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Need Help With Image sizing

Spend a couple of dollars and buy a second 1 GB SD card for about AU$10 (even less duty free or in a proper country) or you can hit the function button in capture mode. Then go down to the L at the bottom left and you can pick your image resolution. It also shows the number of shots that will fit on the card and then hit SET to pick the 'fineness' setting to save even more space.

Help :)

Hey TiffanyJane,
There is no way to change the dpi on a digital camera. What you need to do is set the camera to its highest resolution which is 3264x2448 pixels, and this is referred to as large in your camera. Large resolution should provide prints of high quality up to 11.7x16.5 inches, and should also be able to print to 300dpi. Instructions on how to set your camera to this setting are on page 69 of your camera manual. If you no longer have your manual I have provided a link below to a PDF download of it. I hope this helps!

Settings for a630 (resolution or pixels)

You can download the manuals here. To get the smallest size image files for emailing, set the compression to Normal, and the image size to Small (see pages 27 through 29 of the Advanced Manual).
