Sony DVD player not working

My daughter tried to use a different AC adaptor to charge our Sony DVP-FX810 portable dvd player. It no longer powers up when either plugged in or running off battery. No lights, no disc spin, nothing. The adaptor was a lower voltage, but could it just be a blown fuse? and would I be able to replace this myself? The warranty expired in March and getting it serviced by Sony would cost more than I paid for the player... Thanks for the assistance!
