How do you route the motion belt

I replaced the motion belt but not sure if routed correctly because the mower won't move once started.

Go to... Then enter the model number that is under seat. Should start with 917. Then scroll down to Ground Drive and there's your diagram.

it could be but if it kept going with the clutch in i would guess the belt is the wrong one or it was put on incorrectly. not saying you don't know what you are doing but it happens a lot where the belt was routed wrong and did the same thing you are saying. be sure it is routed correctly.

Can you adjust the PTO belt. I just replaced it with an OEM belt and it's so tight that it started smoking. It's routed correct and everything else is fine

A tight belt will not smoke
you have not got the routing right or there is a drive spindle that is not turning

Why are the blades engaged when mower starts and the handle is in off position?

the belt is routed around both blade pulley rear of belt routed to inside of pully tensioner front of belt routed to moter clutch or or in some cercumstance it is totaly the wrong belt and thats what i think your problem is i think you got to short of a belt

Which belt,mower or the motion belt (Belt that moves the tractor?If its the motion belt look for a decal,under the left foot rest. If its a mower belt,look for a decal on the deck it self. The next thing i would do,if the decal is missing get in touch with Sincerely,Brad Locke DTD 12/04/15

its possible the belt may not be on the correct pullies. check the diagram and make sure it is routed correctly.the guy i bought my used mower from had same problem. i corrected belt route and have not broke a belt in the two years i've had it

Murray riding lawnmower motion belt routing

I need your model # took look it up , I am a Murray dealer.
The thing to rember there are two kinds of idler pulleys flat idlers that ride on the back side of belts and v pulleys that ride inside the belt . wont be back to the shop until the feb 10.
