My company has an HP laserjet 5500 printer. We ran out of yellow toner and did not order a spare. The machine keeps flashing 'out of/replace yellow toner'. We do not have the manual readily available. We thought we could go through the menu and bypass the yellow and print our documents in greyscale or in black. But nothing attempted is allowing us to print. We tried shutting the machine off..to no avail. It is Sunday morning and we need documents printed for our payroll. Our backup printer broke last week.

Take the cartridge out and reseat it. If you bought a compatible toner I would order an OEM HP brand toner. These machines don't work well with compatibles.

If you mean toner, you can probably do it, but most new printers have a memory chip on the cartridge which keeps track of toner. Adding toner will not change the count and the printer will ignore the new toner

Unfortunately laser printers don't work this way. The laserjet 1022 was designed for black and white prints only. In order to do color printing with a laser printer you will need to purchase one that is designed to print in color. The laser printers work a bit differently than the inkjets - the laser printers have 4 toner cartridges, one each for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black, that work together to print a full color page. With the old inkjets you could just replace a black cartridge with a color one.

So, short answer: Sorry but no you can't make a laserjet 1022 print in color. :)

I would recommend looking at an entry level color laser printer from hp, such as the CP2025 (http://h10010.www1.hp.com/wwpc/us/en/sm/WF25a/18972-18972-3328060-15077-236268-3673580.html) if you are looking into purchasing a color laserjet.

did you use a genuine toner cart.........!!!!

Are you using HP toner?
Pull out the cartridges and vacuum out the printer. Get a compressor or canned air and blow the printer out. Vacuum again,
Install HP toner and try printing again.

Make sure your using OEM toners. My best guess would be DC controller or high voltage board.

Re-installing the print driver will not solve a flashing light. If the printer is functionally ok, it will come to ready simply by plugging into the wall. It sounds to me like a fatal error at this point.....could be a long list of things, but I would lean towards a formatter board. bottom line with this printer at this point in it's life is, if it doesn't work, it's not worth fixing. Replaceable for about $100.
