It has a short. have it repaired or toss it. Usually stems from the selector switch, if you can pull the wheel or lever off and clean under neath, A can of compressed air like you clean your keyboard with is what I always use. Sorry, think its smoked.

SOURCE: Access black screen problem

try this!

1.turn on the unit and switch it to play mode( by pressing the button next to th viewfinder.
2. press the menu button
3. select setup (the option with the toolbox icon)
4. inside setup look and select for setup 1(toolbox icon with a number 1 at the bottom)
5. then select initialize and select OK to every ptompt,
6. then it will pop up clock settings.

if this will not work then it would be better to hav the unit checkd and repaired by an authorized servicer. sony 1800-222-7669

Only the audio is recording, NO VIDEO, onto the hard drive. The JVC reads, "Lens Cap" even when the lens cap has been removed. Flip out screen is black. Only shows record settings; Battery life,...

This is usually caused by a defective CCD image sensor and can be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

It's the lens that cause the problems. If parts are available, try replacing it.

Wide angle cap vs wide angle lens

The cap is a plastic disk, usually black or silver, that snaps on at the end of the lens to keep the lens clean. Some lenses have two caps, one for each end when not attached to the camera.
Some cameras don't use a "loose" cap; those cameras generally retract the lens into the camera body and "close" a door in front of the lens.
Many, if not most, camera users do not use a cap (my guess).

The wide angle lens is generally an "optional" lens that can be used for group or scenery pictures when you want to shoot a "wide" picture. A "normal" lens is generally around 50mm (plus / minus 5mm). A wide lens is anywhere from 17mm to 24mm (or so).

I recommend obtaining a wide lens... with a cap.

Hope this helps!

Problem with lens

It is possible you have the display turned off... Some cameras allow you to do this to save battery.
