The internal speaker stopped working on my 2G touch yesterday. I performed a restart on it and the speaker function was restored. Basically just follow the 5R process in this website: http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/

I sent mine back to Apple because of this and they told me is it was not covered by the warranty because it was damaged by misuse. I got it back and was looking at it one day and noticed there was some lint in the docking connector. I took a piece of paper and folded it and got the lint out. Then the speaker started working! The lint must have been shorting something out, not sure it this is some freakish thing or not, but make sure your connector is clean..

Uh, someone should really find a way to post this all over the internet. This problem is common, and yours is the only one that mentions a solution that has worked for me at least.

You are a freakin genius!!!!!!!!! Thank you sooo much. This is the only thing that helped me fix my problem:)

This is freaking amazing. My speaker quit working like a month ago and just my headphones worked, not a problem but wanted the internal speaker to work also. I saw this post and took an airhose from a compressor and blew out the end where it connects to my computer and WOW it freaking works!!!!!! Thanks alot!!!!

I have a solution that worked for me, i simply restored the ipod on itunes and it will create a backup of all your data, then resync the ipod will your original apps and music from the itunes saved backup and surprisingly it works.

I have an ipod touch 2nd gen 16gb and noticed that if I shut off my car before disconnecting the ipod I get that problem. The way to fix it for me is unplug the ipod while the car stereo is still on and playing music from it.

I assume it may be the same for other things that can play music off of ipods.

I think Apple needs to come out with a patch for Ipod touch, seems to be a common problem.

  • ted emigh Feb 18, 2011

yes i cleaned all the nothing the prob is that the pins in where you plug head phones in get stuck clean that and try messing like twisting the head phone jack or only plug it in half way and out or plug in fast and pull out fast

Maybe try what shawn1040 did. My ipod had this problem literally like 2 minutes ago. But I took his advice just now and the speaker worked again. Just blow into the port until sound comes out. Otherwise, just contact apple.

I did the Blowing into the port thing, and actually banged it against my leg a bit and then suddenly i heard sound. Im guess lint, dust and stuff will short it out.

What happened ?

If it was bought new and the sound doesnt work, its most likely either a defect in firmware from the manufacturing, or the ipod internal audio jack or stereo was damaged while being shipped to the store. Its best to take it back to where you bought it to be replaced, before your return date ends. Or if you have a Apple warranty, you can contact them online or give them a call

Internal speaker stopped working on my ipod 5th gen, headphones still work tho.... anyone got the solution??? cheers

Well, the internal speaker does not play sounds... It is not possible for the iPod's internal speaker to play music, as it is only capable of making three disctinct sounds:

the clicky noise

the alarm sound

the chirpy noise when you boot into diagnostic mode

You can get those sounds back by going into SETTINGS on the IPOD and turning the sounds back on.

It sounds like you're having a serious hardware/software issue. Have you done a restore? Try that, then if its still under warranty contact Apple for repair. If you iPod is out of warranty check out WhiteBoxService.com, they fix ipods quickly and inexpensively when they are out of warranty.

No sound from my Pure-Fi Express plus into my 4th gen Nan Ipod

Hi, while your pure express plus you just purchased is not playing out any sound is because, the speaker that enable you to play the sound when you play music through the ipod is faulty and it needs to be replaced with another one for it to function properly again.

After changing the speaker that is faulty with a new speaker, you can now start enjoying the music again through the internal speaker.

Take care.

The internal speakers on my ipod touch don't work

As far as I know, the sound quality coming out of the ipod is not so great to begin with. I have an iPod touch, and the speaker I have right now was only $12.59 and the sound quality is great. plus I have my headphones from UxSight. They are amazing. Here is the link: iPod speakers

Inmotion speeker dock wont charge new ipod touch

This is because you are using different generations.

If the dock was only meant for 1st generation, then itwill only charge 1st generation. It's how they make their money.
