60 in.rear projection Philips Magnavox

My screen has progressively gotten worse. At first, when I would turn on the TV, the screen would go from large to small. Now, picture is getting smaller and smaller. What could it be?

I have a Model 9P5031 C102 and recently, the screen begins to shrink in and out on the initial few minutes of power on. Sometimes it will remain in the shrink position, a small picture in the middle of the screen. Sometimes a few power on and off's will clear the problem temporary. Also noticed that when it is on full screen, it seems that the screen has shifted about half an inch toward the right. Vertical size looks normal. When the tv is warmed up,sometimes taking up to an hour or more it seems to stay on full screen ok, however, I still can see that the screen has shifted 1/2 inch to right.
Thanks in advance for your help.

I have Model# 9p5040c102 that did the same. For a month, when powered on, the screen would zoom in and out for about 10 minutes before becoming normal. Then last week it would remain in the shrink position for 30 minutes or so, a small picture in the middle of the screen with no sound when picture was small and sound would return when picture was full screen. Sometimes a few power on and off's would clear the problem, but it would flick in and out finally becoming normal and would stay normal as long as the TV was on. Yesterday, nothing, black screen and no sound. Can anybody identify the problem? Is it fixable?

Problem solved.
I had the exact same problem with my Magnavox TV. The screen would shrink then expand. After thrity minutes it would correct itself. Then one day it just broke - no sound and no video. I searched these forums but did not find clear instructions on how to fix it. I gave up and called in a repair tech. He fixed my TV in less than 30 minutes.  To help others like me I documented the fix and created a step by quide and repair kit to fix the problem. You can find it here.

Poor picture quality. Picture also tends to curve

The curving is caused by bad digital convergencr chips (2) located on large signal board. They need replaced along with blown pico fuses and the convergence resistors. Chips are huge compared to a regular IC. 2" x 1.5" and they will be bolted on fairly large heatsinks. Cloudy picture is most likely the coolant needs replaced in the picture tubes. This needs to be done approximately every 5 years.

Was this tv made between 1995 and 1997? The problem is in the large signal board. It has the flyback on it. You will need to find a servicer.

Picture is small then gets large then gets small again.

Probably a voltage regulator problem. It's not something you can fix yourself unfortunately
