SOURCE: Lifestyle 48 locked up

Just got off phone with Bose support with this very problem during install of a VS-2 software updtae to an older LS48 system. (Bose support personnel were very helpful on phone - and walked me through procedure to solve). I presume you unplugged and replugged power supply with no resolution. In that case, unplug power supply, wait 30 seconds and while holding down the "open/close button" and the "store" button (on media center) plug the power supply back in. Continue holding until the "Bose Lifestyle" message disappears. I presume this puts the system into a diagnostic mode, as the next steps in my case were to press and hold the "erase" button while scrolling through a menu of options using the "volume up" button. I believe it was the third "volume up" press that brought me to "FLASH" on the system screen. At that point I was told to release the "erase" button and press the enter button. The system rebooted and my VS-2 install went smoothly after that.
I'd recomend calling Bose support (800-905-2138) since your lockup occured during a CD load vs a software update (just to be on the safe side) - I was talking to a live tech support person in less than 15 seconds... a pleasant surprise.

SOURCE: Bose Lifestyle V20 Error 180

OK talked with Bose just a minute ago and they were able to correct the issue.

We disabled the power cord from the back of the media console (where the HDMI cables connect) and left it off for a minute or two.

Powered the media console back on and it is working as expected.

Was told by the Bose tech that the common reason for this issue is due to the use of the HDMI cables that have a propritary security protocol that is used between the media console and the component it is attached to (ie TV, Cable/Sat, BluRay ...ect).

I asked if there was a BIOS upgrade if it was indeed a "handshaking" issue and was told there was not one (yet).

If one becomes available, it will be shipped via mail on a CD\DVD that can be used in a CD\DVD player that is connected to the media console using the HDMI cable.

Hope this helps!

SOURCE: How do I connect my iPod to Bose Lifestyle V20 System

You can only Connect a iPod via a iPod dock
Apple iPod Univeral Dock
and use either
Apple Composite AV Cable or Apple Component AV Cable
based on what Output you iPod Allows.

the list of which iPod that is supported is listed on each page of the AV Cables above.

You can use a IR Blaster Cable with the iPod Dock to control the iPod also.

Below is solution from an earlier post, I'm trying it out now as I have the same issue, system bought in Jan 09. I have received and installed the latest update from Bose recently, now this. Will call Bose tomorrow to fix if they can't they will be getting it back.

My bose system does not respond to the remote. It is a patio system. Inside works fine but I cannot turn the outside off or correct the volume. I just got a new remote- same problem

Maybe, just Maybe you could try turning the power off for the sub woofer, the zone next and then the Bose itself. Power up the woofer and zone before the Bose and it may pick it up, works when the Apple TV drops out

Volume control not working

Can you change inputs or listen to the radio?
try removing the batteries and re-inserting them on the controller. I'm wondering if the remote control is locking up and preventing any volume changes. just make sure the volume keys on both aren't stuck down.
Failing this i'd be dropping in for a quote to the bose repairer,
good luck!

The volume control on my Bose 38 lifestyle system will not adjust the system, with either the remote or the volume controls on on the console.

On a Bose 38, the volume will self adjust at start, and then you will be able to change volume using either radio remote, or buttons on main unit (the one with DVD).

If the unit is not responding , then there is a fault.

A fault where the Bose 38 is working (eg. you can swap from DVD to AUX on bose), but you cannot control volume (you do not see the values on main unit display) is rather unusual.

Ensure that you have correctly connected TV, receiver, or any other external device to the bose in Input, not in output from Bose.
If you have an HDTV, use the optical input on Bose, that is the only digital audio in on a Bose 38.

Check if the problem depends on connections, if it does not, let me know.
