Question about GE Profile JB968 Electric Kitchen Range

1 Answer

Problem with GE profile JB968!The bake and probe lights alternatively flash. I feel like it might have something to do with humidity, but am not sure. I don't even have the actually probe that comes with the oven because this range was in this house when we bought it and there was never a probe. Could it be a problem with the probe sensor? I'm not sure if the switchboard needs to be reset or replaced. Please help-- the oven will not bake or do anything, just flashes and then when I try to set it to bake it just beeps and flashes probe. I tried leaving it unplugged overnight, but as soon as I plugged it back in, it started again. Also, I remember it doing this before a few months ago, but then it just stopped! Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

This is usually caused by a short from the casing of the probe socket to the body of the oven. This is not an easy thing to fix as it requires you to take the range apart. I usually fix this by removing the probe socket and painting the case of the probe where it comes in contact with the oven cavity and also around the hole in the oven cavity where it attaches and after it has been allowed to dry reassemble.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using 'Fixya'.

GE Profile XL44 range

I think it's the ignitor.   Ours has been doing a very slow lighting for quite a while.  I found if I did a cleaning cycle it seems to work a little better... otherwise a new ignitor  ( Ours is gas )...  now it is flashing the probe and bake lights alternately and will not turn the oven on at all....  not so impressed at this point.....

Range problem

the control bord may be bad or the receptical where the probe connects may be bad and grounding out agenst the body of the oven. I would remove the plug and make sure the wires are good and its not grounding out. If it checks out ok replacement of the control bord should solve the problem

Probe light

I had the same problem today (my wife overflowed a pot of chicken stock last night, so there was liquid all over the cook-top, and some probably got down behind the control pannel). Based on the solution to a problem that seemed similar, though definitely not as exact as your description, I checked the probe connection (unscrewed the retaining nut, then unscrewed the two sheet metal screws holding the housing in place, then gave the probe connection a gentle tug to ensure that it was still properly connected). Finding nothing wrong, I replaced the housing and retaining nut, and the lights were no longer flashing.
