IF IT PUSHED EASILY ON THE SAME CARPET BEFORE, THEN THE BRUSHROLL IS NO LONGER CONTACTING THE CARPET IT USED TO. A NEW BRUSHROLL AND/ OR BELT SHOULD GET YOU MOVING AGAIN. TRY THE BELT FIRST, MUCH CHEAPER.

IF YOU HAVE RECENTLY CHANGED THE BELT BY REMOVING THE BASEPLATE (NOT THE RECOMMENDED WAY) CHECK BASEPLATE TO MAKE SURE IT IS FLUSH WITH HOUSING.

If you removed the bottom of your vacuum, then it's quite possible that the squeegee was not installed properly. On the side of the squeegee that faces up (to the operator) there is a groove that snaps over the baseplate. If the groove isn't snapped ove the baseplate, the vacuum is extremely hard to push (don't ask me how I know and I won't have to lie).

Johnny V! GREAT post. Thank you very much. I'm not new to other models of Orecks but I could not figure out the answer to my problem until I read your post...VOILA! You're a champ. Thanks a lot!

The key here is the angle of push. The closer the handle is to the floor, the easier the Oreck XL is to push. Use your shoulder rather than your elbow with your arm extended down as far as you can.

Try replacing the belt, even if its not broken it could be so stretched out it isn't turning properly.

Look at 3 things:
(1) is there something wrapped around the rear
wheels or axles?
(2) Is there something wrapped around the small, front wheels or axles. (not likely this is the culprit.)
(3) Is your brushroll still turning. (This requires looking underneath while unit is on, have someone else nearby to pull the cord from wall, turn on & off quickly and make sure brush roll spins.

If it is rear wheels, you can pop them out if necessary to clean the debris, they may be hard to press back in. Similar for the small front wheels, don't loose the axles. If brush roll is issue, check belt, insure that brush roll will spin freely and does not have debris wrapped around it.

### The roller brush on my Oreck XL Classic has only center bristles. Both sides have been worn down to nothing. It is hard to push. Why are the bristles wearing down?

Sounds as if the wheels are collapsed on one side and the brush is harder in contact on one side. In correct alignment the brush should just kiss the top of the carpet causing the bristles to flex a little.

### Is there a Dyson vacuum that Will work on high pile Mohawk carpet?

Patty,
I am not sure about any of the Dyson vacuums being able to handle that carpet. I work at an Oreck store on the weekends and I know that we have had several customers come in with the same question as yours and we recommend the Oreck Magnesium RS or any of the Miele vacuum cleaners. They have been tried out on Mohawk carpet and have been found to work well. Hope this helps!

### Why is my oreck xl 21 hard to push on carpet?

sometimes the little rubber wheels in front wear out of round and bind. Try those first (if they're the tiny ones you must buy a pack of 20 from oreck directly) and Orecks are known for being hard to push when bag begins to fill up.

### Vacuum hard to move on carpet

The key to getting an Oreck to move or push is to use as low and angle of the handle as possible. The more upright the handle, the harder the machine is to push (move). The lower the angle or the closer the handle is to the carpet, the easier it is to move (push). Use a straight stiff arm that is pointed down and move your arm at the shoulder with a near locked elbow.

### Adjust height for plush carpet

The best solution is to change your method of trying to push the vacuum. The more upright the handle is on an Oreck, the harder it will be to push. The lower the angle (the closer the handle is to the carpet) the easier it will be to push. There will be a huge difference. Use a straight stiff arm that is pointed directly down towards the carpet. Use your shoulder and have a near locked elbow. The vacuum will now push easily.

### I have installed a higher pile carpet, how can you adjust the deck of an Oreck?

To the best of my knowledge, you can not. However, there is a solution to the problem of pushing the Oreck on a high pile carpet. The more upright the handle, the harder the Oreck will be to push. The lower the angle or the closer the handle is to the carpet, the easier the Oreck will be to push. Use a straight stiff arm pointed down. More your shoulder with a near locked elbow. You will find your Oreck much, much easier to push.

### Smartstrand carpet makes vacuums difficult to push

The seam problem could be an installation problem. It is important to pattern match any carpet with a pattern. If the carpet is a plush carpet, the seams should not be invisible, but not unsightly. If he carpet is a frieze, the seams should be hard to find. Any variance from these norms could mean a redo of the seams by a talented carpet installer. In a large room such as yours seams will never be invisible.
Good Luck, carpetguru
