Re: home gas heater

Need more info. Does it have a pilot light? Some are spark ignition and some hot surface which both light themselves, except for pilot style.

Hi, I have Osaka Gas Heater model 43-540.

A natural gas heater can only burn natural and vice versa unless there are changes such as orifice and regulator. They can easily be converted to use either fuel, but you have to know what fuel supply you have, and what the appliance is set up for. Since you've already tried LPG, if it turns out the appliance is natural gas, then replace the spud (burner nozzle) before trying to operate it again. LPG cannot pass through the small nozzle hole in a natural gas appliance.

Pool heater: Pentair minimax 250 M millivolt propane. Problem: Burner does not want to stay on - cuts out or does not even come on when using switch. Technicians have already tested all electronics and...

Hi there

On these heaters there are a number of safety cut out switches and some are not obvious,
1. If fitted I guess they have changed the thermocouple ( this sits in the pilot flame and connects to the gas valve) if they have changed the gas valve.
2. There is normally a control link to the heater to prevent it starting if the pump is not running or the pressure is too low. This is usually a wire that runs through the pump motor overload(if fitted) and the inlet or outlet water pressure switches ( if both fitted) and then to the time clock (again if fitted) and to the thermosts on the heater.

I hope this helps, but please come back to me if you need more info

I have a hayward H250 and the pilot lites easily and quickly as long as the gas control knob is depressed on "pilot" as soon as the knob is released to switch it to "ON" the pilot...

Unit dosn't seem to bve sensing flame. Clean your flame sensor. Its connected to your pilot light assembly usually. Its a metal rod that sits inside the flame. Could also be bad and need replaced. Hope this helps.

How do I know if the pilot is lit on my heater? Can I light it myself?

You should be able to see it.There is a small flame in the bottom of the fire box at the end of the gas line tube inside the heater.

Also the gas valve will be turned to on.There are 3 positons on the gas valve, off pilot and on.
If the pilot lite is not lit the valve will be in the pilot or off positon.Plus if it were on and not lit you will smell gas.

Yes you can lite it.Follow instructions on side of heater on how to lite pilot.

How do you lite the pilot lite on a Rheem Gas Furnace Model #rgma-125a

If I recall correctly, model number Rheem furnace you listed has electronic ignition to light the pilot, when the home's thermostat calls for heat. Is this what you're having a problem with?

I have a gas water heater, 6 years old. The pilot will lite and then the burner lites up, after several seconds the burner goes out. It won't stay lite. The other gas appliances are working. What's...

The Thermocouple, which is part of the ignition system may be loose, where it screws into the gas control valve. Or it needs replacing.

But, first turn the gas off to the water heater, allow the burner compartment to cool off and with a flash light do a visual inspection of the burner chamber. If you see rust or scale in the chamber or on the burner, it will need to be cleaned. You can use a wire brush to clean the burner, making sure you do it carefully and not too aggressively. Use a shop vac with a hose and crevice tool to remove the debris that was created when you cleaned the burner. Be sure to vacuum the burner ports well.

Look for the Thermocouple ... it will be in front of the pilot flame and look like a 2 to 3" long piece of copper. It will have a copper tube running from the bottom of it to the gas control valve. Does the Thermocouple look pitted and worn? Dos it have a hazy film on the tip? If so, use some very fine grit sand paper to polish the Thermocouple. You don't want to sand it, as much polish it. After you have completed that, use a cotton ball dipped in alcohol to wipe off the Thermocouple.

You remember the copper tubing I mentioned that runs from the Thermocouple to the Gas Control Valve? Trace that tuning to the control valve and see if you can loosen the connecting nut to the control valve with your fingers. If you can, it's loose and needs to be retightened. Finger tighten it and with an appropriately sized open end wrench tighten only 1/4 turn more. Turn the gas back on and light the pilot, following the lighting instructions on the water heater. Allow the control knob to remain in the pilot position for at least 1 minute before turning the control knob to ON.

The water in the tank has probably cooled enough that the burner should fire up. If it doesn't turn on the hot water side of faucet, to drain the tank some, so that the burner will fire.

Once it fires, take a stick match, light it then blow it out. Quickly place it next to the opening at the top of the tank where the Exhaust Vent Pipe is connected to the tank. If the vent is drawing properly, it should **** the smoke quickly up the vent pipe. If it doesn't, you'll need to check the vent pipe for obstructions or disconnections at the couplings along the pipe.

If the burner does not continue to operate properly after you have completed all of this. Replace the Thermocouple. Remove the one you now have and take it with you to a hardware or home improvement store, so that you can match it up to the ones that are available.

Hope all this solves your problem. Please let me know.

Igniter on my electrnic gas hot water heater does not work but tests good .so what can the problem be

Not enough information but I will try and guess. Assuming that you have a pilot. Set the thermostat to vacation mode. turn the gas valve knob to pilot and push down and then click the pizzo button several times to lite the pilot. You can look through the sight glass at the bottom of the water heater to see if the pilot is lite. If it didn't wait a few minutes and try again and look at the pilot and see if you can see a spark. If it did lite and then when you took pressure off of the knob and if went out you could have a bad thermocouple or a bad gas valve.....hope this helped.

The WeatherKing Forced air heater stopped working in my house. The thermostat could turn it on in terms of sound but when I looked at the heater, all I saw is the pilot light. No air, hot or cold, was...

You will need to relite the pilot if this is a standing pilot furnace........If this has an electronic lite for the pilot then cycle power to the furnace and set thermostat to heat. and retry sequence. Once you get the pilot to lite then watch it to see if the main gas comes on. if it doesn't then you need to check and see if you are getting 24 volts to the gas valve with a volt meter. If you don't feel comfortable with doing this then you will have done everything that is simple. You will have to call a service tech. Problems that it could be are gas valve, limits not closed, ignition control board, main limit open because the blowor motor locked up or motor has open winding or run capacitor open.

Canot locate remote swich or instructions how to get water heater pliot lit on 1984 itasca motorhome

look for the gas valve and on the top of it there should be a valve that has either off, pilot, or on. Turn it to pilot and depress the knob. At the same time follow the small tube that comes of the valve and at the end of it is the pilot burner. Hold a match to the pilot burner and when it lites keep on holding the knob down for about 20 seconds. If you can release the valve and the pilot stays lite then you can turn the knob on the gas valve to on.

Gas furnace wont stay lite

I'm a little confused by your terminology. You are saying you have a pilot lite and electric heat strips? Are you possibly meaning burners? Is the heater running for 2 hours straight without shutting off? how cold is it there? Lastly what temperature do you have the thermostat set at and how close does it get to the temp. before it shuts off?
