You have to connect an external antenna to the FM ANT. terminals on the back of the receiver.

How do I fix the FM tuner to pick up FM signals?

I think you might have fault in the FM tuner section. Most of these are done by a single IC, replacing that will cure the fault I suspect.

Marantz st-48 wont pick up fm signal

If you are inclined to try to service this unit the first step is to download a service manual, this is a sight that has a copy of the manual for download for a price

http://www.marantz.owner-manuals.com/ST48-service-manual-MARANTZ.html

you will require some hand tools, soldering iron and desoldering brade and some solder, multi meter and some type of signal tracing device like and oscilloscope or and audio tracing amplifier.
Look for missing power supply's to your RF front-end circuits and FM discriminator , also track down the analog switching ic to varrifie that this unit is functioning and selecting the FM circuits
if you still kneed help contact me further with your findings and a copy of the service guide

Have a good day and good luck

Digital signals require better aerials than FM radio, a wire can pick up FM signals, but Digital won't pick up a thing.

FM Tuner not receiving - Yamaha R7 receiver

Take the cover off and look at the cable that connects the tuner to the main board. Make sure it is connected straight and tight. Make sure all screws in the back are tight, just in case it is a grounding issue. Iff all checks out and you still have issues, replace your tuner.

I have a 70's era Yamaha Natural Sound Stereo Receiver CR-620. It just recently stopped working. It turns on, but doesn't transit sound. Can it be fixed or is it terminal?

If there is no audible physical click from the speaker output relay, after about 10 to 20 seconds, there is an electronic fault in one or both amplifier circuits, which will require repair. If you like the sound of this unit enough to pay maybe $50 give or take, get it repaired. Otherwise, you can pick a similar unit up at a thrift shop for a few dollars.

Am/fm radio stations not clear... I have the AM antenna attached... but there is no attachment for FM

First of all check for any nearby source of interference.....Move your unit away from all computers, fluorescent lights, neon lights, microwaves, cell phones, and cell phonemag-glass_10x10.gif chargers. These devises tend to produce noise in the medium frequency band, where AM radio is broadcast.
If the unit plugs into the wall with a nonpolarized plug (where both prongs are the same size), try reversing the plug inmag-glass_10x10.gif the outlet. Moving the plug to another outlet might help, too.
check for fault in the antenna lead, (common) or bad earth on the antenna to body
If you don't have an antenna connected to your FM receiver,With a receiver or tuner, connect a wire-loop or T-shaped dipole FM antenna to the back of your unit. Move the antenna until you get the cleanest signal. Use a signal-strength meter or display to gauge signal strength if your unit has one.
  • Step 2 If you're still not getting a good signal, try an indoor amplified antenna, which you'll find at an electronics store. Don't buy one unless you get a guarantee that you can return it for full credit if it doesn't solve your reception problems.
  • Step 3 If your signal is weak because you live a long way from the transmitter, install an outside antenna and mount it as high as is practical. If you're primarily interested in getting signals from one station or from a group of stations in one direction, get a directional antenna and point it toward the transmitters.
  • Step 4 If you're using a portable FM radio where the only antenna is the power cord, stretch the cord as straight as possible and experiment with positioning again.
  • Step 5 Temporarily switch to monaural mode to improve a weak signal on an FM receiver.

I have a Yamaha CR-820 unit and cannot receive an FM signal. AM is fine. Also the FM meter reads as no signal. Please help.

If I remmber correctly, the FM section is a couple of ICs (LAxxxx or LCxxxx). I will look this up when I get back to my shop. Check in the tuner area for a coupld of 14 pin ICs. Check for 12V or 5V in the area and look for poor solder joints in the area as well.

Let me know what you find. I'll post back with additional details.

Purchase a shop manual from local dealership and in that will have all the ohms resistances in there. Test all electrical components before buying anything to be certain it is what you need.
