Display reads sonar timed out

check the battery voltage as low voltage can cause the unit to display errors and prevent the sonar from starting up. This unit is more sensitive to low voltage than many other electronics. If charging the battery or replacing it with a known good battery doesn't work then contact garmin for a replacement of your fishfinder.

Can i put software to use on water or boat

The answer is yes you can. However remember that your satnav is not waterproof so you must keep it dry. To buy maps for on the water go to www.garmin.com. Hold your mouse over maps and click on BUY MAPS. You'll have to fill in your satnav model, what continent you want to use it in and for WHAT ACTIVITY select ON THE WATER. The maps available for on the water will be shown and you can select which ever you want.

When you're downloading the map download to your computer and install to an SD card rather than to your satnav as you could overwrite the map already installed on your satnav. For details on how to do this go to http://www.fixya.com/support/r5628920-update_garmin_satnav_maps
This explains how to update your maps but also includes downloading to your computer and installing to an SD card.

NOTE: There can be problems with nuvi satnavs reading SD cards so I would advise you to try installing a map you already have to the card first and see how it goes. If you don't have a copy of your map on your computer and you have at sometime in the last few months updated your satnav
  • Log into myGarmin
  • Click on myMaps
  • When you see the map you have installed on the satnav click on DETAILS and it will take you to a page where you can download the map again for a certain length of time after you bought it.

I just bought a canon RC-6 remote control and when i bought it they said that it is compatible with my canon eos 1000D. is it compatible? it does not seem to work. Thank you!!

It is compatible, but you have to delve into the camera menu to activate the function. I can't give you specific instructions as to how to do as the browser on my phone can't read .pdf documents.

If my answer is sufficient to have solved your problem then please let me know by rating my answer. If not and you require specific menu guidance then please add a comment and I shall provide a more comprehensive answer as soon as I am able to do so.

Have just installed a Garmin 140 on a tracker alum. boat. I have the transducer what appears to be at least 3/8 " below bottom of transom. I lose the bottom at least 40% of the time. Do I need to go...

I would recommend having the back part of the transducer a little higher (toward the sky) than the nose of the transducer. When I say a little, I mean a very slightly. This way the nose of the transducer pushes the water and any bubbles away from the face.

Where do all the wiring go to on the garmin 400c

The rest of the wires are for interfacing (letting the unit 'talk') with other devices such as radar or GPS. These wires/colors are pretty standard and defined by NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association). You need wiring diagrams for the devices to hook them up. For fun, see where 'nema' takes you with Google.
