Hi,
Since you are already using a network on XP based machines, go through this step-by-step instructions to setup networking on Vista based machines.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00815942&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

Although this page is meant for HP & Compaq PCs, the same procedure needs to be followed on all PCs. Hope this resolves your problem.

We have an oj8500 (not wireless) printer connected to one computer operating on windows xp. We can to add a computer operating on windows vista to the printer. is there a way to do it that works? if so,...

Yes, if both these computers are on a network (wireless or wired, doesn't matter), the printer can be shared on the XP machine and then found and installed on the Vista machine.
The only disadvantage is that the sharing machine must be on all the time in order to make the printer available to the other computer.
To share a printer, open the Printers and Faxes applet from Start Menu -> Settings, right-click your printer and choose Sharing. The system will guide you.
Afterwards on the Vista computer you must install a new printer and tell it to search for a network printer - it should be found and installed quite easily.

Please come back and rate the solution if helped or post a comment for further assistance.

Net Gear PS121 print server, prints test page but not word docs

It's a driver problem not installed properly on the XP machines. Here's what you can do. Install first the driver of the printer directly to the XP machines. Then try to re-do the smart wizard installation.

Networking XP and Vista

Since I won't be able to read your response, you can probably try these steps if it concern file sharing between your XP and Vista computer;

-Make sure that both machine have the same Workgroup Name.
-Turn off Firewall on both machine.
-Download the LLTD patch for Windows XP http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=4F01A31D-EE46-481E-BA11-37F485FA34EA&displaylang=en
- Make sure file and printer sharing is enabled for both machines.
- Restart the computer and check if they can now see each other wheb you view entire workgroup.

Hope this will solve your sharing problems.

Regards,

Unable to share printer

You need to go into the machine that manages the printer and allow the access denied machine access or to share printer. You may have to run the network setup wizard in order for the machines to recognize each other.

Sharing a printer between a Vista Home Premium and XP Media Center Computer

Hi cavman6

(01) Is the Vista computer able to access ANY shared resources at all on the XP machine?

(02) Are you running any firewall software (other than the firewall built into the operating system) on either computer?

(03) If you are, please, let us know which firewall software it is and, for now, please, disable it.

(04) Do both these computers have Internet access? (I'm assuming they do but I do need to ask.)

(05) Is the printer currently ONLINE and working properly w/ the XP machine?

IF YOU HAVEN'T DONE SO ALREADY, PLEASE, DO THE FOLLOWING:

(06) Assign *both* computers to the same network WORKGROUP.

(07) Ensure that file and print sharing are enabled on the XP machine. If you'd like, do so on the Vista system, too.
(A) How to on Windows XP
(B) How to on Windows Vista

(08) "Share" the printer on the XP machine (in printer properties).

(09) Can each computer now see itself AND the other computer on the network?

(10) Have you added your user name and password that you're using on the Vista system to the users list on the XP system?

(11) If you haven't done so already, please, do this. The user name should have a password associated w/ it. So, if you aren't using a password on your Vista system profile, assign one then add that user's credentials to the users list on the XP system.

Please, post back here w/ what you've tried and the results, your observations and any other comments or questions.

Thank you
BJ @:)

HP 3100 LaserJet All-in-one Print Driver for Vista OS

It doesn't work in share mode either...It prints the pages incorrectly. I have the hp3100 connected to my xp pc and my vista laptop connects to it via printer sharing on my network. the xp prints fine but the vista doesn't print ok due to lack of driver support for it.

I have to resort to print to pdf and then take the pdf to my xp for printing. Its a half *** solution but if anybody out there made his/her own driver please post.

set up file sharing and make sure the laptop is set to "private" not "public" in the Networking and Sharing Center.
