Question about Sharp R-1480 Microwave Oven

4 Answers

Sharp R990C(s) Carousel Convection microwave cuts out on preheat at exactly 4:15 each time, regardless of temp set, or temp inside. It can be over 100 degrees inside according to my digital thermomenter, yet asking it to preheat to 40 degrees, it just times out and the motor and heat stops at 4:15 on my stopwatch. Conv and Cook light up on display, interior light, motor, fan, turntable all working, microwave working fine. It obviously can't measure the internal temp, perhaps it's just timing out? Got me beat!

Thanks for the response. No error codes at all, the display continutes to show preheat as per normal, except the oven has obviously turned off, light off, fan off, stopped rotating. "cook" also disappears. You have to press stop to clear the display. Happens if you preheat, or convection cook, or combo, hits 4:15 and it's over. Memory is clear. Everthing is working as it should otherwise. There is a click noise as it turns off at 4:15, like a relay. It has me beat!

Link goes nowhere, and I'm lost as to the breaker thing, do you mean the mains power? It's not tripping the mains at all, this is purely within the unit.

Guys, I'm in Australia, it's degrees celcius, that's about 90F i think : ) I only use the lowest setting as an example. I can have the oven way hotter,if I measure the inside with my digital thermometer, and it says over 100, then preheat it at 40 or even 70 degrees, it just churns away for the 4:15. Seems it can't register the temp inside.

I found a solution on here to do with the dampner assembly, got all excited and checked this out. I found the dampner door, cam, switch etc, but at 4:15 it just turns off, dampner door stays shut. I can make the door open by pressing the switch, or by pressing stop on the control panel now stopped oven, and the cam rotates, pressing the switch, opening the dampner door.

    Dampner is out....

Hi,

As we are not there we can only make intelligent guess.I have seen this issue with most of the ovens. To be really honest, i have not got a same solution for every customer.

I can highlight the main reasons :-

1. In most cases, this is a problem with the inverter or a bad magnetron. If this being the case, you need to call sharp. This is tech's work. No way you could do it yourself. Sorry to be precise, but that's the solution.

2. Few people have find an issue with Microswitch. Either they are bad or not engaging properly.

The first REASON i mentioned is the most common and 90% people have the same problem.

Hope i helped you.

DO RATE THE SOLUTION.

Thanks for using "Fixya".

Hi there,

First of all i have a question -- Is there any error code on the display board?

It seems like you need to change the Display board, this is a chip base board backside to the oven display.

Thanks

If you use a sensor function, the sensor may be obstructed, please clean the sides and top of your microwave with a dishcloth, warm water, and soap to dislodge any rough or stained spots.
If setting a timer, when setting to bake please pay close attention to the unit of measure so that you set it right, minutes vs. hours as you may leave the oven to do its business and return without noticing it did exactly what you told it to do but you had thought you entered a longer time.

Sharp Carousel Microwave has no power

I too believe that a "protection fuse" was possibly blown. It would need to be found and get replaced. Hopefully it is just a fuse and nothing else because the way it sounds to me, the microwave may be damaged.

Good Luck!
