More likely the ink cartridges have dried up.

Take them out and see if there is any ink in them...

Magenta won't print at all on test page. Tried normal cleaning cycle several times to no avail. Also tried "power purge" cleaning cycle twice also with no success. Help!

The magenta print head nozzles maybe blocked.
Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent ink drying out and blocking the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer than replace the print head.

How to remove and clean epson stylus pro 7000 printer head its cloged

Welcome to FixYa!

If you have not used your printer for a long time, the print head nozzles may be clogged. Perform a nozzle check and clean the print heads.

Use the Epson Printer Utilities to do a nozzle check and to clean the printer head.

Cartridge problems Epson 4000

Where are you located? is it Humid? possibly the chips on the cartriges have something on them (corrosinon, oil from a finger touching the chip, etc) that is interferring with good contact with the wire "feelers" inside the machine. clean the chip with Qtip and alcohol, or fine fiberglasss bristle battery contaact cleaner (hard to find these days)

Not printing magenta ink and tried cleaning heads already

Hi, one or two head cleans won't clear a clogged nozzle. Try doing 4 or 5 head cleans, wait about 10 hours for the ink to soften and do another 3 or 4 cleans with a nozzle check after each. You should see a gradual improvement in the nozzle checks. If there is no improvement then you need a head cleaning solution such as this one:
http://www.powerklin.co.uk/?gclid=CNGDypir-JgCFQ4yQgodZlC4lw

Others are available just try googling "inkjet head cleaning".
Note that head cleaning uses between 5 and ten percent of your ink cart's, if any are low on ink have some new ones ready. Hope this helps.
Please take a moment to rate this solution, thanks.

I have an Epson 4000 which has a clogged nozzle

I have an Epson 4000 which I started using new in Sept 2004 and my magenta is clogged too. I've gone through 2 maintenance tanks trying to clear it, (and LOTS of ink), but the magenta is still blocked. I even tried this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NR8g4qUAJc trick but it didn't seem to work. I hope you have better luck.

Epson 9600 suddendly stopped printing yellow

It's NOT a cartridge if this works... I had a similar problem with a 9600 I bought on eBay that had been inoperable over 18 months. Three colors would NOT clear up after multiple power cleanings. Epson support politely solved the issue at no charge on the phone... he had me drop a few drops of warm water on the pad the printhead rests on when not printing. You have to move the printhead to the left to do that by moving up the little lever near the cutter. The pad is easier to reach with a long eye dropper. I used very warm water- not boiling. I replaced the printhead over the warm water pad for an hour. Then I repeated the process and let it be for another 60 minutes. Then I did a nozzle check and what was gummed up yellow, cyan, and magenta nozzles became clear and it's worked fine since. Good luck!
