For troubleshooting "ghost printing" use "LaserJet 2200 repetitive defect ruler". Measure the distance of 'ghost' figure from the 'original'

I work for a company that does this and can tell you it is possible. Some companies do the drill and refill and some like mine actually take the cartridge apart and replace the drum and wiper blade.
You can buy the kits to refill your own. Usually, it just involves drilling a hole and pouring in the toner. This is the first I have heard of the melt and pour. Just be aware that eventually the parts inside will wear out and start to show image defects. You don't recommend reusing them more than twice.

When installing new cartridges, it's always a great idea to perform a cleaning and recalibration of the machine. Below are the steps needed to do just such a task. You may want to print these out or save them somewhere for future reference as well. They are directly from the HP website.

nope...... the problem as you rightly poit out is the cartridges, most refills are poor quality and dont last, but the real ones are expensive but very rarely cause issues. If one colour is dodgy the entire colour process fails, print a square of each colour to determine which colour cart is the issue and complain to seller, 99.9% of print quality issues with these HP's is due to non gen toner....not much you can do, expensive is colour printer fullstop.
