HP DV 1000 Loose Hinges?

I'm looking for a way to tighten or if I have to replace the loose hinges on my DV 1000 myself. I can take the covers off to get to them myself and have all ready tightened the screws that they mount to the case and can find the part #'s myself needed if they have no adjustment and need to be replaced. I would like a better idea though if they can be adjusted or how to replace them if needed. If they can be adjusted/tightened it must be some trick way to do it since to me they look like they are not serviceable.

Thank you for the info and reply. That's what I thought. Now I hope some one has a good step by step like this website that has a video on how to open the top half of a DV 1000

The HP and Compaq laptops are relative easy to disassemble to get at the hinges.

There are screws that fix the hinge on the back edge of the laptop and also sometimes under the plastic strip panel between the top of the keyboard and the bottom of the LCD screen. This strip panel is usually secured by screws on the bottom and possibly screws on the back edge of the laptop.

This panel will also be held in place by plastic clips and require gentle levering up to remove the panel, the panel also covers the hinges. The LCD panel would need to be foldered/pushed back till it lays flat before you can remove this panel.

Before you remove the last screws securing the LCD screen, there is a video connector and possibly a cable to the inverter, detach these before you remove the last screws holding the hinge to the bottom half of the laptop case.

After you remove the LCD screen/lid, to get to the hinge in the lid, there are small plastic covers that hide the screws that secure the bezel to the lid. After the screws are removed the bezel will still secured in place with plastic clips and sometimes with double sided tape. You need to slip a thin blade between the bezel and the LCD screen and GENTLY lift it off the lid. Be careful not to scratch the LCD screen. I suggest you start at the bottom edge of the screen and gradually work your way around the other edges of the bezel.

After the bezel is removed you can see the hinges and how it is attached to the LCD screen and lid. Be careful when you remove the hinges that you don't twist the LCD screen as it is fragile and when cracked it is destroyed.

    Good luch & have fun.

Laptop hinges are loose

The hinges can be loose in two different areas, but the most popular is the hinge attachment point behind the screen bezel. Remove the rubber screw covers from the bezel, remove the screws, take your finger nailas and from the inside of the bezel pull gently to the outside to release the catches on the screen lid. Start on one side and work your way around the screen until the bezel pops loose. Look at the bottom of the screen and you will see the hinge attachment points. Tighten them up. If you have some locktite this would be a good time to apply it, remove the screws one at a time and replace. To replace the bezel, always start at the bottom and work your way up.

Screen falls back

Loose hinges or bad hinges. You can pop off the hinge cover (above the keyboard) and 'try' to tighten the hinges, but if that doesn't work, it's failing hinges and the only fix is to get them replaced mate.
Hope this hellps, be sure to rate!! :)
