Question about GE 24 in. GSD4000J Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

Won't empty, does'nt wash well

I own my own business, it is called Kitchen Solutions. I design kitchens, and am the person who purchases appliances for some pretty upscale homes in my area. I usually am very careful to research products before I purchase, but may have made a mistake on myown kitchen.Less than 2 years ago,I purchased and had installed, a GE dishwasher, GSD4000J, I have only used it about 6 or 7 times, only on holidays reallly, that is the only time I have enough dishes to wash to make it worth while. It worked really well at first, then one day it did'nt wash the dishes clean, the soap packs(liquid in bubble packs) just partially dissolved and the soap smeared around inside, also it would not drain, it completes the cycle, but leaves soap and water inside, about 4 or 5 inches, up to the bottom of the door. This thing cost me a lot of money, I think it should work a lot better considering the few times I have used it. My area does not require an air space, so I do not have one, don't know if that is part of the problem, but probably not since it worked real well for awhile. Can I get help or am I just stuck with a bad product?

Re: Won't empty, does'nt wash well

Most likely your product is fine. However those little gel-packs r the worse on dishwashers they get stuck in the system and clog and ruin dishwashers I always recommend using powder it foams less and breaks down easier in the dishwasher. Also u might have a clogged or kinked drain line. If all is fine there it is possible your motor is locked up in that case make sure the dishwasher is off take off the bottom panel. Then reach under and find the fan blades on the motor turn them a few times to unlock it replace panel. U can also try a small amount of C.L.R to clear up any grime in the system.

My Kitchen Aid Dishwasher model # KUDS40FVSS0 has blinking cancel, sani-rinse and normal wash lights. It will not run at all. We replace the control board and still nothing. Please Help!!!

I have had this problem. Mine didn't work for over a week and by the time the repair man came over to 'replace the board' it suddenly worked. The guy told me that if you use ANY type of liquid dishwashing soap (for your sink) and any residue/bubble is on the dishes, it can cause your dishwasher to break. I have no idea why but I've been really careful to make sure I wasn't using dish soap prior to putting them in the washer.

I've had 3 service calls on this dishwasher since I purchased it 3 years ago. I'm having similar service issues with my Kitchen Aid Fridge. And of course no help from Kitchen Aid.

Flooding in both drawers of dishwasher

I suppose "flooding in both drawers of ..." implies water is not draining out. Is that right?

It is a very little information to give you any clear solutions.

Did the water get into the drawers without starting any wash program? Most likely it is the backflow from kitchen sink back through the dishwasher drain hose. Does your kitchen sink plumbing have an air gap sowehere. If so, is it clear?

If the water is the back flow then it is likely to be smelly and you do not want to run it through the dishwasher. I would suggest take the drain hose out from under the sink downpipe and drop into an empty bucket. Then take all the fixtures out from the drawers and empty out water using a small container.

Put the washer arms back and run each drawer on a short rinse cycle collecting the drain water in the bucket. If cycle runs clear, then get plumber to check the kitchen downpipe.

Reconnect drain hose.

Hope this helps.

Water not draining after wash. Checked the troubleshooting guide and none apply to problem. It seems like the pump isn't running.

Have you purchased a new food waste disposer for the kitchen sink area? If so, make certain if you are draining the dishwasher directly into the food waste disposer, that you have removed the plug from the food disposer. Or you may be correct that the water pump is inoperable due to an obstruction or basic malfunction. Contact an appliance service company.

Using too much rinse aid will not work. Stick to user manual factory prescriptions. If you use correct amount of rinse aid, and the right product for your dishwasher, that is not the cause of the stains.

Ensure that you are using the right detergent along with rinse aid. Check specifications on manual.

Ensure that the drain well is clean.

Ensure that spray arms have enough pressure, check water level and impeller pump.

If you still get stains on dishes, and you are sure that they had been caused by limescale, that means that the water in your house is too hard. This will also damage your appliances in the long term, causing faults due to accumulation of limescale and rust.

The best thing to do is installing a water filtration system on the appliance inlet.Call your local appliance shop or technician to discuss about the problem and purchase a filtration system for your appliance.
