Replaced the positive battery cable from the battery to the starter on my 2002 Dodge 3500. Started the truck and as I was walking back to the garage with my battery charger the engine died in three progressively slower steps of RPMs and then died altogether. Attempted restart with plenty of battery and spinning good but no ignition. Any ideas?

YES SOUNDS LIKE YOU DIDNT TIGHTEN DOWN THE SILINOID WIRE TIGHT ENOUGH ON THE STARTER. THIS WIRE IS ALSO YOUR IGNITION WIRE IT KEEPS THE POWER GOING THRU THE LOOP SO CHECK YOUR HOT WIRE ON STARTER SOMETIMES WE THINK WE TIGHTEN THEM DOWN BUT WE GET EASILY DISSTRACTED

SOURCE: 2002 Dodge Intrepid accessory/starter relay problem?

Accessory position is turning key towards he driver. Ignition on is away 1 and start is away2.

  • Turn on your headlights, do they work? If not, chk batt terminals
  • If they do, try to crank the engine noting what the headlights do. If they go out, Chk the batt ground cable. If they dim, your batt needs a charge. If they dim and then come back bright when you back off the starter, the starter is bad.
  • Chk for loose engine to body ground. That would affect the accessories. Good Luck, _Ned_

Car wont start. doesnt turn over. battery good replaced starter still having same problem

I just had this problem with my 2002 Grand Am. The problem was not with the battery or starter. It was the security system. It had to be reset. The garage said that they turned on the key and left it for about 20 mins until the light started to blink then started the car. They don't know why this happened, maybe the remote start? Hope thid helps. Dolores

Bad starter

Don't mean to be a wiseguy but: disconnect the battery, unbolt the starter & disconnect the wires on starter. Get a new starter and reverse the process!!!
Except for stuff being in the way, which you will have to deal with as necessary, that's about it!!! There are no complicated or "secret" tricks on this one!!!
