Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

When I try to play DVD's on my computer, I receive one of two messages: 1. Screen resolution needs to be reduced. (I have it set on the lowest possible level) 2. There is a component that is needed in order to play DVD's. (I never received this message while using the computer in the U.S. - only after moving to Egypt.) Thank you.

Thank you. Now, how do I download the codec? My home computer does not have internet access. Also - what is PAL and NTSC?

Try downloading the codec again and I presume this is on the same computer and not a PAL recorded DVD as opposed to a NTSC.

You would have to have internet access unless you can get a friend to download them and then you install them. There are several sites that give you free codecs to run dvd's, etc. The european format is PAL and the US has NTSC. Don't ask me the difference, but I know one format won't work with the other. If you are using the same DVD with the same laptop, then it is simply the codec or software that is at issue. Hope this helps.

My media player want play dvd's

Maybe your screen resolution needs to be higher? What type of error message are you getting? Are these dvd's that you were able to play before?

Most computers will have problems playing dvd's that someone made for you on their computer. Try a store purchased dvd and see if it plays.

You can always reinstall windows media player at Microsoft's site below.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/windows-media-player

You can also try the VLC Player. It comes with drivers and codec. I've seen it solve a lot of issues that Media Player could not fix.

Try using VLC as your player. Go to www.google.com and in the search box type "download vlc" (without the quotes). Look for the Video Lan download from site www.videolan.org/vlc Download and install it. It downloads and installs in 3 minutes or so. It's a very fast player, smooth and it can play just about any type of dvd formats and media. It's totally FREE.

Pls how can i play my DVD player with my hp 1730 lcd monitor i'v tried connecting through VGA but its saying ''out of range'' what do i do? Help!

The resolution (most likely the 1080p HD) is too high for your monitor

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c00477225&lang=en&cc=us&taskId=&prodSeriesId=346693&prodTypeId=382087

. You will need to access the dvd player's menu somehow and reduce the resolution to one that is supported: ideally it should be the 480p SD one that your player surely supports. The exact procedure is in the manual.

When I connect my Laptop to my HD TV using a HDMI cable, I get a message saying "incompatible video signal has been received.Check the output video settings." Any ideas?

A TV will only display certain resolutions from a pc I would try to lower your pc resolution to its lowest setting and see if that clears of the problem if it does then slowly increase the setting until you get that message again then dial back one setting and that will be the highest resolution it will take. Also be aware that if you are trying to play certain games on your pc while displaying on your HDTV that signal will not always render.

I continully receive a message of the screen is not in optimal mode of 1920X1080. I have gone to the screen setttings and have applied this yet I continue to receive the message when I go to play a game....

Your game does not natively run at the same resolution as Windows. Check the video/graphics settings in the game itself to adjust the resolution to 1920x1080.
Note that increasing the resolution to this, will drastically increase the load on your graphic card.

I moved from the US to Egypt. When I try to play

Hello!

Please refer to the article given below to know about the DVD region code.
http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C125695

In order to play DVDs of any particular region that is not currently supported by the DVD Drive installed in the Computer, you may change the region code. However, the region code for the DVD Drive installed in the Computer can only be changed maximum for four times. After fourth time, attempting to change the region code will fail and service will be required to change the region code.

You may follow the steps given in the article through the link below to change the region code of the DVD drive installed in the Computer.

http://www.kb.sony.com/selfservice/documentLink.do?externalId=C171033

Furthermore, you can reduce the display resolution of the Computer display by going to the display properties.

Pc connection doesnt work with computer

The TV you are hooking it to is not able to show the resolution you have the computer set to. Start by setting your computer resolution to 800 x 600. If that works than try 1024 x 768. If you go too high you will get that "out of range" message. The instruction book that came with your TV has a listing of the available resolutions the TV will show.
