Don't know if you'd call it dangerous, but wisedom would be not to leave a radio turned on while on the charger. 1) Shortened battery life due to short charging. The battery will never be fully charged due to powering the radio. 2) Inadvertently pressing the PTT button while the radio on the charger can/will burn out components in the radio including the PA (final amp) which is a costly repair.

Instead of leaving the radio turned on while on the charger, buy a second battery to keep on the charger. Then you only need to swap batteries. Your radio would be able to remain on, and never be on the charger.

What is the range on a cruise ship

Typically most handheld radios have a range of 2 miles line-of-sight. However, obstacles between the two radios can significantly reduce range. On a cruise ship you may not be able to talk through multiple floors. To increase your range be certain to have fully charged or fresh batteries, and also hold the antenna upright, perpendicular to the earth.

Will the walkie talkie charge while turned on and left in the cradle? These are brand new models.

Not efficiently. It would take 3-4 times as long to get a full charge, as the energy is depleting nearly as fast as it is charging. The good news is most FRS radios will go up to 18 hours on a charge. Think of the charger as the radio's bed. When you go to bed, put the radio to bed too.

Best regards.

Motorola FV200R Talkabout dosent turn on

Yes, it is likely you need new battery packs. The Li-Ion batteries have a 12-18 month life expectancy. They will sometimes go longer if the radios are charged and depleted at least once a month. This style battery should be available from your local Motorola dealer on online at Motorola.

Motorola mts 2000 won't turn on

It is doubtful you ruined your battery, as they are designed to be left charging for periodic long periods, such as a full weekend, when a business is not open.

If you battery previously worked before charging it, I would suggest checking the connection to the radio, and the battery contacts on both the radio and the battery. It is possible you have flattened one of the contacts or some other contact problem.

If the battery did not recently work, it is possible it simply needs replaced.

Lastly, you might want to verify your charger is working. It is possible the battery did not get charged, and is completely dead. This is the least likely scenerio, as it is rare a battery is stone dead, unless it is no good.

Try a battery from a known good radio on the effected radio and make certain the radio is functional. If so, check the contacts, if okay, replace the bad battery.

Best regards.
