I spent quite a bit of time researching this yesterday, but nothing was popping up in results.
In effect, the customer buys the gift certificate with cash or credit/debit card and they get a 'promissory note' by way of a certificate. That is recorded as your sale on the day.
When they redeem it, they are buying goods but not paying. You need something that records the sale amount figure and a method of payment that is 'this has already been paid' so isn't in cash or debit card/credit card as the payment. with my POS Tills (bar and restaurant), I always got the rep from the company I purchased from to program them. They do it from a laptop which is a lot easier and faster. Call the company and ask. If they won't help, set up a PLU Key that is marked Gift Certificate, make the sale to that and manually deduct it from Charge. Circle it on your X and Z-Reading and write the deduction on the tail with the days trading amount at the bottom of the Z-Reading.
Cash total $6,250.00
Gift Cert $250.00
Adjusted Total $6,000.00
It isn't going to be every day, so only take a few minutes.
