Question about Dell Latitude D600 Notebook
I have a dell latitude d 600. ran great for a while. cd drive has recently become very loud when reading a disk and the front left corner of laptop becomes very warm. yesterday my husband removed the back to try and blow out some of the dust and check what memory was in it, put it all back together. now boot up is VERY slow, opening anything takes a few minutes or doesnt respond at all. not very good at the technical part of computers not sure where to go for help, no restore disk either, so i havent tried that.
Commonly, a freezing or slow Dell computer can be caused by many many reasons such as outdated hardware, overload start up programs, corrupt registry issues, too many junks, virus attack, poor security software taking too much system resources, remnants of uninstalled applications etc. The fact is, you should keep some system maintenance job regularly. If you don't want to do the job manually, try the Dell speed up solution available here: http://www.speedupslowdell.com/

I would take it apart ensuring you know what goes where and that you are not on a carpet so the kitchen if it has tiles and when taking memory , hard drive ( any electrical things out ) make sure you now and again touch a metal case or something to dis charge yourself of any static electricity.
Re seat the hard drive, memory etc and double check for dust.
If its still the same after putting it together then it would most likely be the installation on the computer of windows has too much starting up or the hard drive is not defragged or possibly a virus or trojan.
So worth while doing a virus scan and ensuring that you do not have too much starting up with your computer ( startup control panel by mlin ) is a good utility that or msconfig ( start --> run )
