Question about Refrigerators

1 Answer

Running almost constantly. Do not know what ideal settings should be. Freezer is 1 to 5 set at 4, fridge is CDEF - set at E ...and the carrots froze. Have not reset it - was fine a week ago. Weather is humid and has been hot but cool now. Seems to run for near an hour before it clicks off. At the bottom left inside of the fridge near the refresher there is a slide dial says cold to cool. Set in the middle and seems to be stuck there with something sticky inside it perhaps dripped into it. I don' t know what it regulates. I think it is a '94 or '96. It finally went off after about 45 minutes

Hi, my refrigerator Panasonic NR-B320T non stop running, both vegetable and freezer sections are GETTING FREEZED even though the temperature are set at 1 (cold not at 3, the coldest).

check your user hand book as most fridge settings work the lower the number the colder the setting
so 1 is around 1-3 degrees , 3 is 4-6 degrees, 4 is 7-10 degrees
it is the freezer that works 1 is minus 5 and 5 is minus 20 degrees
it would explain why everything is freezing up
it would also explain the non stop running as the fridge is battling to keep the low setting

It looks like it might be a badged Sears Special.

The dials in fridges usually go from zero (defrost) to 9. Ideally you want the setting between 4 and 6. Buy yourself two fridge thermometers, they are cheap. Your freezer needs to be minus 16 - minus 18' Centigrade. Your fridge needs to be 2 - 4'C. The thermometers have a green area showing the range. Here is an example.

Fridge not cold enough

The higher the number the colder the temp is supposed to be.

In order to prevent the formation of bacteria and other such organisms to affect food the way it does, the ideal temperature range of refrigerators has been mentioned here. Before we look at these settings, it is important to know the format in which temperatures are represented within a refrigerator. Commonly, you will notice a dial representing the figures 1-5 or 1-9 in the refrigerator, and a dial representing the letters A-E in the freezer. The ideal setting is usually in the middle of such figures.

If the dial is in such a format in your refrigerator, try a setting at 3 if the range is 1-5, and at 4 if the range is 1-9. For the freezer, a setting at C is suitable.

The ideal temperature in the refrigerator ranges between 34 degrees F - 38 degrees F or 1 degrees C - 3 degrees C. So that foods such as vegetables and fruits remain fresh and crisp, the temperature may be set around 38 degrees F or 3 degrees C.
The ideal temperature in the freezer ranges around 0 degrees F (-18 degrees C) or lower.

Recommended temp settings for freezer and fridge

The ideal freezer temperature is 0 to 5 degrees and the fridge section from 36 to 40 degrees. However, you will get more accurate responses if you leave the model number of your exact unit.

Issue with Kenmore Refrigerator/Freezer

ok,1st check on fridge side toward upper back of the top and feel for air coming thru, and there is another one down possibly behind crisper .I had this same deal. Had to do total defrost,, put food in cooler,, theres two blower fans in these types of fridges,,one in the bottom back,, and one in the back of the frezzer,, I used an old hair dryer and let it blow warm to top interior of frezzer,, careful not to let any cords hang/drop in any water!!,ok once done dry out as much water as possible, turn fridge on set both controls to 4,when fridge kicks on do the feel test,, you may need to close the frezzer door, air should be felt near top inside of fridge,if so than shut fridge side and feel inside frezzer near bottom and air should be felt,, side-by-side need to circulate air from frezzer to fridge, then back to frezzer

Fridge and freezer at 50 degrees with settings on max cold. I can hear compressor cycling and all power is on. Suggestions?

Your Refrig/freezer should be set as follows:

Refrigerators: 36 to 40 degrees. Ideal temp is 37 Fahrenheit. Note: A temp above 42 degrees promotes bacteria.

Freezer: temp should be -5 to 6 degrees Fahrenheit. Ideal temp is 0 degrees.

Then check the door seals around the edges to see if any splits, tears or cracks have messed up the seal. This will cause your compressor to constantly run as it's trying to cool off the warm house is being sucked into the freezer (or Refrig). A sure sign the door seals are damaged is lots of ice in the freezer door area or water pooling in the bottom area of the refrigerator.

Wait about 4 hrs after you readjusted the Refrigerator/Freezer settings so everything settles down. If you still have problems then the coolant may need to be serviced (topped off) or the motor serviced/checked.

Don't procrastinate because a water heater and Refrig/freezer are the 2 largest energy users in your home- they run 24 hrs a day.

Hope this helps...

Candy CPCA250 GB Freezer feezing but fridge not cold

Hello jonnyclewlow
Welcome,

You said, you recently had a problem with my Candy fridge freezer (it defrosted overnight and wasnt cooling at all) and a repair shop diagnosed a thermostat problem. I have replaced the thermostat, Now the freezer freezes without any problems but the fridge does not go cold at all.
Also the compressor is running constantly

This is my first thought

Fresh Food temperature is
too warm. Freezer
temperature is satisfactory.

1. Fresh Food control is set too
warm.
2. Set fresh food control to a colder setting. Allow 24
hours for temperature to stabilize.

3.Then see if you do not have your freezer articles packed full up to the top, or covering the cold air vents usually found in the rear of the freezer compartment.

The fridge and the freezer share the cold air so the air must not be restricted from travel form the freezer to the fridge and back!
This would also cause the compressor to run none stop trying to cool the fridge!
So check your air vents in the freezer.
I'll bet you did not know they were there !
Most of us never notice!
Hope this works for you.
Please let me know that one of these solutions worked for you!
or if you have any questions.
Thank You, huuum
