Question about Acer Aspire 3610 Notebook

1 Answer

Random Memory access freezing.

My Acer apsire 3610 is a year old, and has recently begun sporadically freezing. THe problem appeared to be based in the memory so i replaced my 256ram with 512 ram,but the problem persists.

It can either happen when i turn the laptop on, it will get to the windows boot screen, and the laptop stops accessing memory, or at least the memory light stops flashing, and the laptop will freeze. The only way i can get my computer to switch on is to reboot many times and hope it works.

The problem can also happen when logged on to windows. I have run spybot and AVG tests, and come up with nothing.

Does anyone have any ideas??

There is no faultlog.txt in my windows folder. Im not sure why.

When my laptop is running normally, the memory usage is fine, and as I get no warning before a freeze, it is difficult to get information from that! I have now flashed my bios and the problem still remains, is it possible that communication between my hard disk and my ram is faulty? Could this be causing the problem? I now know that the RAM is not at fault because i have installed new memory.

that seemed to have worked! thanks

Or in fact, the problem still remains..i think it might be my hard drive that is suffering.

My computer (an ACER aspire desktop) is only about 3 months old, so I know it can't be a memory problem, but while going through the startup process, it will freeze up. It is acting like too many things are trying to open at the same time. My problem started with internet issues--as in refusing to acknowledge our ISP portal (which had previously had no problems). I tried a SYSTEM RESTORE--after running VIRUS SCANS & SPYWARE CHECKS. It refused to restore--until I tried it in a SAFE MODE WITH NETWORKING. Since then, it has been okay in the safe modes, but when started normally it freezes. I have tried everything that I can think of--do you have any ideas????

Possibilities read on this pics:

or :

Go to C/windows and look for a folder called Faultlog.txt. Open it and it should display all the faults that have occurred. Post a few so we can see if theres anything in particular thats causing it.
i would suggest that you reboot and get into Windows. Press [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Delete] and click Task Manager. On the Performance tab, it will give you a reading for the amount of processor usage (which should only be a few percent when the system is sitting idle) and another counter for the amount of memory usage (this should be 192Mb, i.e. 196608Kb, or less). Minimise Task Manager.
When your PC starts freezing or looks like it's about to (if you can tell when it's going to happen), then try and bring up the Task Manager window again from the taskbar at the bottom of the screen. Has the processor usage shot up? What has happened to the memory usage? You might need to resize your screens so that you have the Task Manager running at the side whilst you continue working - that way, you'll be able to keep an eye on what's going on.
Give us some feedback about your results and we'll try and diagnose it further :)

and please if my solution was helpfull rate it as SOLVED

You have to increase RAM (random access memory) if it is even possible. A new part has to be installed internally to increase RAM.

I need extra memory for acer aspire 3610 and i want to know how many GB i can put

According to page 6 of the manual, your 3610 came with system memory 256/512 MB of DDR2 400 memory, and is upgradeable to 2 GB using two soDIMM modules.

You can see a list of sources for your memory here. Additionally, you could go to Crucial's site and perform a scan of your computer for suggestions of memory upgrades.

I hope this helped & good luck!
