That's a problem. If it's still in warranty you're in luck. Either take it back to the store, or call Sony to have it repaired under warranty. If it's out of warranty they can send a third party servicer to your home to the tune of $400 labor (in 2008) plus parts in the US. I will say this much, if it turns out to be an LCD panel issue, the panel will cost about the same as the TV itself when it was new.

The issue you describe sounds like the scan frequency isn't right for the video you are watching. In other words, it should be 720P and it is running at 1080P instead, and you wind up with a horizontal fold-over type of line.

That makes that new OLED TV a little more enticing!

Screen not displaying whole letters because of horizontal and vertical lines

I've had the same problem. A temporary fix that I have found is to turn up the contrast all the way (press [2nd] then hold down the up arrow) until the screen becomes mostly black. Then turn the contrast back down (press [2nd] then hold down the down arrow) until it is at a normal level. If you can get rid of all the white lines when you turn up the contrast the screen will be back to normal. Unfortunately this does not permanently fix the problem because I cannot get rid of all the lines and it seems to be getting progressively worse each time it start up the calculator.

Best Solutionposted on Sep 12, 2006By maddogmic Rank: Not rated Rating: 100%, 1 votes I had the same problem with my sony KP-57ws500 rear projection tv. To solve this problem all you need is a flat and phillips screwdriver. Right below your speakers on the right and left side are tabs. Pull out the tabs and remove the screw on eachside. Once that is done remove the speaker cover and you will see a fiber board cover in the middle of the tv, there will most likley be twist ties holding some wires, to make it easier to work remove the ties. Now remove the screws on the fiber board and pull it off. You should see 3 adjustments on the top for focus, do not touch those. Below the focus adjustments on the
