Question about HP Pavilion dv9000z Notebook

Open Question

My HP9000 Wireless wouldn't connect either.

I took it to a tech. He put in a new wireless card, still wouldn't work. Sent it in to HP for a "one time" free service. They said they replaced the mother board. It came back fixed, I was happy until five months later my computer won't even start up. I was on it, walked away to make dinner, came back and nothing!!! Black screen, won't start up. I called and fought with HP. They only stand behind their work for 90 days. I missed it by two months. All over the internet people have the same problem and same fights with HP. They all stated HP tried to sell them another computer for $400.00, the same cost to ship a box to "see" what the problem is. Most people said it was the Mother Board. I just had mine fixed and died five months later!! It's still broke, I'm broke.

Hi, i have an hp pavilion ze2000 with the built in wireless adaptor. its been sitting in a box for 4 years because the ac power stem was 'broken'. i took the laptop apart and fixed that and the...

well it can only be 2 things,
the card is bad, and the do go bad.
or the drivers are wrong
why not find the true name if the card, on the card
the using HP.COm use the correct driver for that card.
HP can uses 2 or 3 different cards, some have blutooth.
its not just one offered.

this LP is old, its seems its got XP on it,? the virus magnet.
why not get a newer LP say year 2010 and newer with W7 or newer
so you get both HP and MS support.
ze2000 tells us nothing much sorry
that is not a product number.
this info here is the only why to get the correct drivers
there IS NO OTHER WAY,
go to hp.com they ask you then same thing,
do so.,
one trick if say there are 3 wifi drivers, for say XP and only on your exact machine at HP.com
then run all 3 drivers, 2 will fail, and 1 will not.
this is an HP secret, saves pulling card out and reading its words.

but after talking to HP
its no longer supported, its over 12 years old,

its listed on RETIRED page, (MEANS END OF LIFE)

My internal wireless card is failing. I purchased a new one. A tech told me if I replace the old wireless card with a new one the system won't load, something about HP locking the bios. Does anyone know...

The wireless card wont be locked to the bios. Swap it out and install the drivers once it is loaded. It will just see it as a new piece of hardware. If it doesnt work, take the new one out and put the old one back in, it wont destroy your computer.

My wireless internet shows connected, but it won't display a page

My Dell Inspiron Mini 10 would not connect to wireless Internet. Tried all the fixes but only restore to previous date worked. Last time I restored I got message: "Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe. Please re-install a copy of the above file." I could not find any way to fix this so I tried to restore to original factory. I followed directions, f12 boot from CD but when I get to "Agree to Licensing Agreement" none of the keys work except ESC. I was able to get on the Dell Tech Chat at http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/chat/hardware_chat?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs (you need your Service Tag) tried same steps I did but keys would not work so they sent me a new hard drive that I can install myself.
Evidently there is no way to fix this. Tech says wireless will work with new hard drive. I hope so.

I have an HP Pavillion dv9000, but they are similar.

Now if you are moving the Wireless switch on and off and the light stays red on both sides you probably have a dud of a wireless card. I had the same issue with mine at one point, what I did was get a hold of tech support, they mailed me a box with a prepaid shipping label to send them my laptop. They put in a new wireless card and shipped it back for free(of course it was still under warranty).

If you recently purchased this laptop you can usually log onto www.HP.com, go to the support section and do the chat with an HP tech or call 800-HP invent or 800-474-6836 24/7 and they will walk you thru the whole process.

But again just from your description, you have a dead air card. Call or online hp and have them fix it for you, especially if its still under warranty. If its not under warranty, then hit me back and i can give you a step by step on how to open up the laptop yourself and replace the card

NEW AIR CARD HAS SIGNAL BUT NOT CONNECTING TO NETWORK

i have had three aircards due to many problems including not being able to install the communication manager program from the aircard to not being able to connect to the att network. well, i got a laptop the other day and figured i was going to have problems with the aircard UNTIL i went to the sierra wireless website and did some investigating!! i think the problems lie with the communication manager rather than the aircard itself. >>>download the 3GWatcher program directly from sierra wireless and use that instead of the communication manager. it offers all the same functions and worked right off the bat....i took my laptop with the aircard out on a golf course in the middle of nowhere to test and everything worked beautifully!!
i, too, spent many hours on the phone with att....very frustrating!
and no reps even suggested that i try the 3GWatcher program...they all blamed the problems on a "bad batch" of aircards.... hmmmmm!!
try it, you'll like it!

Hp z558

This sounds like a poor put together pc. If the DVD drive does not eject then either the dvd is faulty or the IDE cable and/or IDE1 connector on motherboard is not installed, try ejecting through my computer(right click on drive then Eject), if this works the button is faulty. The same goes for the TV Tuner card, again possibly a corrupt or non installed driver, try re installing mother board drivers and card drivers. This really needs to be returned as the pc is not fit for it's use.
