Question about Craftsman 25cc Gas Line Trimmer

Craftsman Weed eater, older won't stay running

The thing would not start, then removed and cleaned the carb. When putting it back together had to replace the primer button. THe original primer had two size line unsed and when I bought a replacement (That I could not find at sears) the primer function was reversed. Forced the lines on to work and actually had it running. Used it the other day and then ran it today for about 15 minutes
This evening I went to use it and it would start but not stay running. I would prime it, it would start then quit. This ran great this morning but not this afternoon it started acting up.

I have another smaller one that stopped running a couple of years a go. I also decided to work on this one over the past week. I took the carb completely a part because it would start after ptiming and then quit. after removing everything including the needle and putting it back together it leaks like a crazy. The needle application did not seem to move at all when I tightened the screw. In fact it seems that it has no function at all. Besides cleaning the inside and using gaskets that I bought some time back, I used a welding tip cleaner to try and clean te jet and openings. At first it ran when I primed it then quit, then after opening it all up and cleaning it now it just leaks.

Any answers besides buying new carbs?

The symptoms you reported are commonly resolved when the following is checked, then cleaned or replaced:

  • fuel filter - located inside the gas tank
  • Spark plug
  • Spark Arrestor - at muffler. When clogged with carbon build up, the exhaust flow is extremely restricted, and causes problems
  • Carburetor - may need a new rebuild kit
And watch this...

And this one...

And one more...

When cleaning the carb., this is key:

Use a Den Tek Brush, (http://www.drugstore.com/products/prod.asp?pid=165357&catid=1152),to clean the small portals in carb. These portals can become blocked. Reassemble and start.

If you need further assistance, just let me know.

Check out the tubing to the carb. If it is good then the top part of the carb with the check valves is defective. If so, you need a new carb since those suckers cannot be fixed.

Carb needs disassembly and complete cleaning and may need new diaphragm as well.

Husqvarna weed eater starts , but blows alot of smoke & then stalls out

Rod, Carb. may need adjusted, try loosening gas cap and start to see if cap vent plugged, there is a in tank fuel filter that you could fish out and remove to see if it is plugged. If still not running remove muffler and clean spark arrester screen, if screen plugged the trimmer will do this.
Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

My weed eater won't crank

If you String Trimmer wont crank, take out the plug and then try to pull the cord. If you can get the motor to spin freely after the plug is out, then you have one of two issue. Either deposit on the cylinder which is allowing to much compression to build up, Simple fix (buy some Seafoam from your local auto parts store. Remove the exaust and pour some seafoam into the cylinder. Let it sit over night and then clean with 2 cycle fuel, either blow out with an air compressor or let it air dry. Then put the plug, and exhaust back together and that should help. If that doesnt work then you need to see if your carb is leaking into the cylinder, causing hydo-lock, your only option is to rebuild the carb, or buy a new carb.)

remove the sediment bowl on the bottom of the carb, but dont lose the gasket and watch out when the float drops so the needle and spring in the bore dont fall and you lose them, then clean out any dirt in the bowl and in the needle seat andget some carb cleaner and throughly clean out all openings in the carb, its a california carb thats why there are no adjustments

Craftsman weed eater wont run

MAKE SURE YOU REPLACE THE CARB GASKETS. ALSO MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING FRESH FUEL WITH THE RIGHT MIXTURE. COMPRESSION SHOULD BE AT LEAST 90LBS

New fuel lines, wont stay run, swapt in/out line, wont stay run

Sometimes simply removing the carb and placing it in a carb dip will clean it without tearing it apart, also check or replace the spark plug. Make sure you have compression, good spark, and that fuel is getting to the carb. If that doesnt work, email me and I'll find you a diagram. Jblee1975@yahoo.com

My gas Craftsman Ez Fire 25cc 17 inch weed eater wont start!

The carb must be cleaned. take the carb off put it on a work bench and pull it apart layer by layer... be careful as there is a spring that will jump out. pull all of the gaskets off and clean behind them. make sure all of the passages are clean. Use brake cleaner from the auto parts store! do not use carb and choke cleaner as the gaskets will instantly expand and be useless. there is also a brass cylinder in the carb you need to remove it and clean it well. There should be a very small hole in the center. put it back together and you should be good to go

My 32cc craftsman weed eater was running fine.when it ran out of gas i refilled the tank and pulled an pulled nothing check spark, ok,an still it wont fire up. thanks for any help.

check for trash in the carb somtimes when you run then out of gas small peices of dirt or on older motors residue builds up in gas tank and it gets sucked into the carb there should be a screen that you can clean
