Thanks for sharing! This was very helpful! I was wondering if you had any recommendations for carpet cleaning in Calgary?

  • Anonymous Aug 22, 2013

If worse comes to worse, you could try carpet cleaners in Fayetteville NC. I haven't tried them yet, but my friend said they were very helpful.

  • Anonymous Oct 02, 2013

I usually just call someone to do my carpet cleaning in Eagle River AK. It's much easier that way and gets a lot cleaner, too.

If I may! In most cases the heater is clogged. It might be clogged with soap that has harden over time. You need to take the handle apart. You will see a metal box(thats the heater) besides the wires there are two tubes connected to the heater. remove the tubes but label or watch which tube goes where. now turn the heater upside down. there are 6 screws on the side and 1 in the middle. remove them carefully. the 6 on the side have a small gaskets under them..you don't want to lose them. the 1 in the middle has no gasket, now the bottom plate of the heater can be taken off (there is a gasket with that plate ...be careful . you will now see the long channels inside the heater and need to clean it. the holes where the tubes where connected have to be clean also but carefully. the metal is soft.so it bends. now put it all back. hope this helps. if you want to keep this from happening.the best way is to run clear water after you are done.this will remove any soap in the machine which will harden after the machine drys out. hope I helped .

and to mr. reddevil6 I am learning lots from you. Thanks

Mine is an upright pro heat 2x with pet extra stuff. Where is the heater located on that one?

  • albradley69 Jul 05, 2013

Hey, Geterdun, THANK YOU so much for posting this helpful tip. I opened it up (with your great instructions) and sure enough, the inside of my heater was completedly clogged with dried goo. Easy enough to clean it out, let it dry, put it back together (used my smartphone to take a snapshot of the tubes and wires before disconnecting), and good as new!

Mine wouldn't spray water...the hand tool did... I took it outside and sprayed the whole bottom (not the motor) with a water hoes...Workes fine again. I guess it was clogged up somewhere. I have to admit that I didn't clean it after each use and I have dogs. Good Luck!

s3xy76 Not sure I understand. You took it outside and sprayed the whole bottom with a hose -- the whole bottom of the SpotBot? Huh.

You didn't give the model number, when you put the lid back on, the piston needs to be on the bottom on the mix valve knob, and in the water only position when you push it down. If it turns ok, then it should be ok. The heater could be clogged, water won't spray if it is. Is the seal on the bottom of the tank and not in the hole in the base where the tank sits.

Cleaned heater according to Geterdun's instructions (great detailed instructions) AND found belt in side compartment had come off and was stuck in the little red plastic piece. Had to go underneath and unscrew little red piece to loosen belt. Rebelted it and it works GREAT!.

Thanks Geterdun!!

The repair facility will always tell you to buy a new machine. But here are the things you should check first:

  1. Make sure there is water in the main tank and cleaner (or water) in the detergent tank.
  2. Make sure that if you press on both tanks that water (or cleaner) comes flowing out fast. If it doesn't, you'll find you can clean these and there is in fact a filter on the big tank on the other side that you never see since you never take it off. Mine was clogged. So unscrew both of these black tank caps and clean all sides. Put them back on.
  3. Make sure that the two red rubber gaskets are attached to the removable tanks (and seat properly on them) and NOT attached to the machine. So when filled with water, both tanks should dispense lots of water freely when depressed. And the red gaskets are on the removable parts.
  4. Make sure that you seat both tanks firmly in the machine. The detergent tank should "click" when seated (press back and down to seat it and you'll feel it click).
  5. If you are using the hand attachment, make sure the machine is upright, the seals are in place, and the power cord is routed away from the machine and isn't preventing any seals from making contact.
  6. When you turn on the machine, do NOT spray it. WAIT. Run it for 60 seconds in order to prime the pumps.
  7. If that fails, you can try running a mixture of water and vinegar to try to clean the lines.

    Also:
    Also:
Put some hot water in the tank and run it on clean only through the hose. Remove the nozzle at the end. When you press the button on the hose, the water should squirt out at least 12 inches and maintain that until the water in the main tank is nearly out.

Check that the red part inside the main tank is freely moving. Not sure what this is, but it might be some sort of "full" bypass.

My Bissell wouldn't spray on the bottom or the handle.

The cause was remarkably simply: all three nozzles were plugged. Solution: take out the nozzles and stick a pin in them working from the inside so when you blow, air comes out.

So for the handle, you detach it and then you can stick a pin in from the inside.

For the jets to the floor, you release the jets from the housing, slide the clamps down, then pull off the jets. Clean with a pin.

There is an EXCELLENT tutorial on how to do this at:

    http://www.bissell.com/FAQDetail.aspx?id...

I thought I had to throw the cleaner away, but this procedure makes it spray like new.

One thing, when you test with the water container like in that link, the water will flow out from one floor hose only. You must block that hose to get it to flow out the other floor hose.

Also, you can keep the vacuum unit upright while troubleshooting using the link above. Set it to "rinse". You do NOT have to tilt the handle. You can get water out of both the hose and the floor sprayers by pressing the appropriate button.
