Question about IBM ThinkPad G40 2388 Notebook

1 Answer

My G40 won't switch to the external display. I've tried everything I can think of. I've updated the display driver and still nothing. The external display works with my R40, so I know it's my computer and not the monitor.

Go to your desktop and go to the display settings and check to see if there is twomonitors.if not and there is only one monitor you can't extend to another monitor but you should be able to connect your monitor and then hold the fn and another button called crt/lcd if not look for another button with monitors on it

Laptop goes

You must, when using an external monitor, either press the relative 'F' key to switch the external signal on or boot with the external monitor plugged in to get it to work.

Ibm thinkpad audio drives G40 2384

You can get the driver from the computer manufacturer's website. If you want all drivers covered and updated, then you can install an automatic driver updater like RadarSync. You don't have to go to different websites to find the different drivers because the software will do all the work for you.

I hope this helps!

Imac to jvc

Hi. A couple of things to try.
Switch everything off. Make sure your connections are sound then switch on the TV. Then switch on the mac. With luck the system should sort itself out. However, I have heard of others who have had nothing but grief trying to get similar arrangements to work.Normally ther Mac does it's own thinking, works out what is at the other end and puts up the display without any problems - other than the picture width being invariably wrong until you find the correct size.
There are no drivers to download - the issue is generally that the TV is not reporting back to the computer the correct resolution and scan rates.
You may have to dive deeper into the TV's menus to locate the means of altering the parameters.

After i plugged external speakers into my laptop, the laptops speakers stopped working. I've tried driver updates rollbacks re installs and pretty much everything else i can think of, being a mildly

The laptop speakers should only be cut out when the externals are plugged in. This is done by a little switch inside the jack. If it will not switch back and the external speakers still work fine then I would say that is definitely the problem. There is not much you can do if that is stuck. All the switch really looks like is a strip of metal that is like a spring. When you push the plug in it pushes this to the side and disconnects the internal speakers. The jack is mounted on the main board so you would have to locate the proper one and solder it on or replace the main board. Short of going that far I would see if inserting a jack a few times will get it to spring back. If there has been any spills on the laptop or it is gummed up inside you can use proper electronics connector cleaner. This is risky as it can damage the plastics but doesn't take much at all to work. I would look inside the plug and see if you can see debris or gunk. I'd also try knocking it. This is literally knocking around the switch like you are knocking on a door. You don't want to hit it really hard but just a few short sharp knocks will loosen things up with out causing damage. If you knock like the landlord looking for rent money then it might ;-]

I installed win XP over the old win XP operating system , when completed, everything worked except the (ACCESS IBM) and volume control BUTTONS.pressing them gets no responce at all

You need to install the drivers for those. Xp will try to use the existing driver if it can or use drivers that it comes with. Certain functions such as hot button or other hardware specific stuff will need the driver from the manufactuers web site.

This is the download and support page for the G40.
You should save that off in case you need something else. You may find that some things will not work or work as well if you don;t use the IBM/Lenovo driver versions. I think what you need are the hotbutton drivers and mayb keyboard customizer. Those are in the system utilities section. Download, save to desktop or other place and run them to install.

You can check the display by connecting it to the external monitor through the vga port of the laptop, if there is a display, then take your laptop to the technician and check it there
