Pop in a fresh set of AA batteries, and the camera will shut down after 5-10 shots and claim the battery is low. I can start the camera again later and the meter will show full battery, but then it will show half, quarter, give me the slash battery and out again.
Seeing the number of comments here suggests a design flaw.
apparently, i was told by a sony sales guy, to use sony batteries WITH the sony charger. Don't use another kind of battery in the sony charger or use an engergizer charger with duracell batteries...we'll see if that fixes the problem as for I have the exact same problem! I'll let you know what happens! (though I'm very suspicious that the guy didn't know what he was talking about! worth a shot though since I've tried a lot of batteries and chargers to try and fix the problem with my H1!)

I have the same problem . I turn on the camera. It beeps and then shuts off automatically. I talked to SONY who said I have to have it repaired - at MY expense of course. I will not buy SONY ever again. Any suggestions on how to fix?
