It does pump water....But then stops. It is not a self priming pump. I have the suction end hooked into the discharge end of the pool pump.

Has this pump worked at all -pumped water?
When it's running for about a minute, is it pumping water?
Is this a self priming pump or do you need to prime it?

There are only two things I can think of-

    - The pump may be air-bound and has to be primed and purged. There should be a small plug on top of the pump. Loosen the plug to allow water to come out, and then turn on the pool pump. Let the water flow, and then tighten the plug. This procedure should purge the air. Once this is done, and the system is up and running, you should not have to prime it again. Air pockets have this property of compressing and not moving, as in the case of auto brake systems.

    - The other thought is that the pump is defective; probably not the case, since it's brand new.

    Hope this works for you.

PB4-60 Overheating

if it shuts down then it most likely is a bad motor. If the voltage is properly wired to the motor then the motor is bad. Sometimes new items turn out to be bad out of the box.

My brand new Polaris 380 booster pump is noisy. What do I do?

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

It is likely due to cavitation in the booster pump impeller. The easiest way to correct the issue is to slowly close a throttling valve on the booster discharge. If there is not one present install a ball or gate valve near the pump discharge line and slowly close it with everything running until the noise stops. Generally speaking closing the valve about a quarter of the way seems to be when most pumps run quietly but the setting is unique to each installation.
