I have a white-rodgers thermostat 1F86-244 thermostat that I have reset and the room temp keeps climbing and I know its not 86 in here. Do I need to replace it?

Is this value the actual room temp or is it displaying a temp setting? Make sure its not a setting. Then use a thermometer to see what the actual temp in the room is. Set it on top of the unit for a few minutes and compare the two. If its indeed off by more than 2 degrees from the thermometer either replace the unit (if power to unit is OK) or try replace the thermistor on the board.

Low Temperature

250 is not low, it is just about to boil over, coolant boils at 260 in a closed system, water boils at 120.Your car should not exceed 200, 220 max. Or just 100 degrees over the outside temp, like 87 degrees out, your car should be running at 187. Until you stop at a light and it idles for a minute, then it will climb.

Lower temperature will keep the room cooler. For efficiency sake, lower the temperature gradually to
68 degrees.

Hope this helped you. Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Greetings!
I have the same model. Symptoms: Unit works great, Expect..when operating the menu buttons, they do don work properly. Example, pressing the up temp works great, but when pressing the lower temp button, the temp will go to 86 degrees F.
The problem is the control board. I took it out, clean it well with soapy water, rinsed with clean water, blew dry, took a tooth brush with alcohol and rebrushed again, rinsed with water, blew dry with compressed air.
Upon close inspection with a magnifying class, you can see the top of the board connections, did not solder well when manufactured. This is a hint... My problem was with R32 a 0804 resistor not being soldered properly during manufacture.
I replaced the resistor an all is well.

All the buttons have ground at the bottom of the switches, while the top is 5v volts dc with a standard meter, but I do believe all the keys are multiplexed, as seen when pressing one of the buttons, the display may show a different function changing.
Thus the most likely problem, will be with one of the 10K ohm resistors associated with one or more of the buttons. The resister is black in color with 103 written on the top, and is a 0804 size.
Hope this helps.
PS I have found no replacement of the control board, so I just fixed mine. If you have electronics friend, he/she might like the challenge.

Make sure you have it on recirculate. Need to know how much freon is in the car with a gauge. If the outside temp is above 96 degrees you must run on max to get the car cool. Do you have tint on your windows. Window Tint keeps your car 33% cooler and you will not have to run your ac on max.
