If the water heater is electric; BE SURE AND TURN OFF THE CIRCUIT BREAKER TO THE WATER HEATER, DOUBLE CHECK THE VOLTAGE AT THE WATER HEATER WITH A MULTIMETER BEFORE DOING ANYTHING ELSE!

To check the thermostat.

1st check the circuit breaker that supplies power to the water heater. If that is OK then check and see if you have power to the heating elements on the water heater. If not then check and see if the thermostat on the water heater has power to its connections and verify that it is calling for the water to be heated. Last if all these checks are OK then you must have a burnt out heating element. Some can be replaced but you will have to drain the water from the heater before replacing the elements.

it does have 2 elements they are located under the 2 panels on the heater you will find them under the covers on the front they will be connected to the thermostats follow the wiring. besure to turn off the power before working on it and use a tester to double check

If you live in the U.S. and have the model / serial number data, you can go to the Homeowners Resource Center page and click "Water Heating Product Warranty Verification" link inside the Warranty Section. If you live in Canada, you cannot use the online verification and should call 800 263 8342 instead.

the age of all water heaters is listed under the serial #, not model #. you will have to call a plumbing supply house that deals in your brand of waterheater, a.o. smith, ruud, bradfordwhite,etc.

I don't know that model number.
Tank-type water heater elements are located behind panels on side of tank.

The water heater label also shows element wattage, brand, voltage, serial number, and type of operation.
For example 5500W elements, non-simultaneous, 240V are typical ratings found on water heater.
5500 Watt would be replacement element size.
Non-simultaneous would indicate that both upper and lower element are not turned ON at same time.
240Volt is typical voltage for water heaters.
Serial number carries date-of-manufacture, based on brand.

Hi Karen, think of the water heater as a straw....if the straw has liquid in it and you put your finger on the top, the liquid doesn't come out. If you open up the relief valve, air will allow it to flow freely. The relief valve has a metal lever on it, usually on the top of the water heater (if electric).
