Manitowoc SD 0852A ice maker compressor will not kick-in

This item isn't listed on the product list but we're stuck in the boonies and need some help please!
Machine has been idle for 3 months.working fine before.
Goes through the fill cycle with the water going over the ice plate, (this is where the compressor should kick in) until the reservoir is full... the water continues to run over the plate with neither the compressor or fan kicking in. If you manually press the relay the compressor and fan will start.

Thanks for the prompt reply bat.

It gave me pause for a sec but the indicator light for the ice thickness is flashing meaning that the light has to go solid and then the dump light goes on that heats the plate up and dumps the ice all in that sequence.Problem here is the that the when the water goes over the plate (mold) it should kick in the compressor to start chilling down the mold, then once the water in the reservoir hits the water probe it shuts the water off then the fan on the condensor kicks in and then it will start to make ice.

I'm not sure that there isn't a fault in the circuit board or that the problem is a pressure switch not working.

    Hope you can help.

Here's my thoughts, I hope it helps. I'm going on foggy memory here, so I may not be entirely correct.
I worked on something like this a few years ago. The icemold (plate) is vertical, there is a circulating pump that runs water over the mold, with the water freezing as it passes. The sealed system is a heat-pump scheme, it freezes the mold to form the cubes, and reverses to heat for release. And when it works, it makes ice fast. It runs constantly until the ice hopper is detected to be full. (there should be a bail to detect the ice level) The system will not run in the event that it thinks the hopper is full (bail up) but the pump motor runs continuous to avoid it freezing. There is probably either a false detection of "full" or there may be a leak in the sealed system and the system will therefore not run.

A pressure switch on this system should check closed across it's terminals. If it checks open it typically means that you've lost refrigerant. Problems with the circuit board may either be the result of a surge, such as lightning if it's been left connected to the line, or a wiring harness connector or the connector pins have bad connections to the board. Again, I can't see what you've got, but if you suspect the board, check it with a good visual inspection. Use a loupe if you have one, looking for seperation of wire lead or connector pin(s) from the solder around it. Pay close attention to any heavier parts on the circuit board, as vibration affects those more. Hope you find it.

Worked fine unplugged it and plugged it back in lights on but compressor wont come on

Let see if by chance the defrost timer is stuck in defrost. Here is a photo of the back section of your Click Here=> FUF17DMRWH System Components Item number 121 is the defrost timer and I want you to take a flathead screwdriver and slowly turn the timer dial clockwise until the compressor starts or stops. If doing this will cause the compressor to start you will need to replace the=> WR09X10154 Defrost Timer
11_30_2012_9_56_08_am.jpg
If this is not the problem I want you to feel the top of the compressor to see if it is hot or too hot to keep your hand on top. This test you will need to have the freezer plugged in and set to come on. Doing this tells me that the compressor is trying to start but cannot. If this is the case then we will need to replace the start components listed as number 119=> WR08X10038 Overload

and part listed as 128=> WR62X10058 Run Capacitor

Let me know what you find and I will help you locate why the compressor is not running, Thanks Sea Breeze

I have a manitowoc commercial ice machine. It has stoped making Ice and just seems to keep running water and not freezing

Hi,

Check to see if the compressor is running... if it is running and not cooling then it may have a refrigerant leak...
If the plate is getting cold but the water is not freezing then check to make sure that the float is not stuck on and the the water just keeps running in... that will keep the water warm enough so that it does not freeze...

Hoshizaki KM-900MAH Ice Maker it sounds like it is making ice and is freezing it but its not dropping ice any solutions?

when the machine first starts, it begins it's cycle in the harvest mode. If the float switch is stuck, it stays in the fill/ harvest mode. Compressor runs and water circulates but no ice is being made. I'd start looking there. Turn the machine on, let it run for about 3 minutes, they very lightly tap the float switch. If it starts making ice, bingo, theres your problem. Let me know if I can be of any more help.

Sears Kenmore free standing ice maker not making ice

Hi and wel;come to FixYa. I am Kelly.

Do you know if the compressor is even running?

Also how long has this icemaker been in service?

There are only 3 things that can cause a condition that the unit is not freezing.

1. Low coolant
2. The compressor is not running.
3. The condensor or evaporator fan is not running.

Having said that...

The most common failures for a cooling system are
the PTC relay / thermal overload and the run capacitor.
PTC Relay is item 18 of link below
Thermal overload is item 20 of link below
The condensor fan motor is Item 4 of the link below

Item 5 the electronic control board (see link below) controls the operation of the compressor via the thermostat Item 12 of link below. In addition to that there is also 1 thermistor (Item 20) that is also part of the control circuit.

http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/showSubComp.pd?imageUrl=http%3a%2f%2fc.searspartsdirect.com%2flis_png%2fPLDM%2fP0109006-00004.png

ANY of the above can cause your icemaker not to function correctly. It will take circuit analysis to isolate which component may be causing your current system.

If the compressor is running and it is not cooling then
There can be any one of the following causing the problem.

1. Low coolant
2. A stuck valve for the cooling / ice making system (5ea)
3. The compressor can be running but not up to speed due to a dragging rotor.

I wish I could say _______ part is what causing your current symptom. It just is not possible without someone doing some on site troubleshooting of everything listed in this post.

Kelly

My ice maker stop working

Knowing how an ice maker works can greatly increase your ability to diagnose and repair it. Just like vehicles, ice makers all may look different but they all work on the same princible. A thermostat starts the ball rolling, turning on a motor and a heater to loosen the ice, as the ice dumps a trigger fires up the water valve and refills it. The whole thing comes to a halt and waits till the thermostat gets satisfied once again.
So what can go wrong? The ice maker will give a clue. If their is ice in the ice maker but none in the bucket that is an ice maker failure. If the ice mold is empty and no ice in the bucket then the water valve is bad.
One thing you can do is get a bottle of water and fill the mold. If it kicks out a batch but no more, water valve replacement needed. If it don't then ice maker problem. If you have shelling or fouled cubes, look for dirty coils below the ice box that make for faulty cooling. Ice forms at 32f but ice mold tstats don't kick in the afterburners till 25f. I have some more detailed tips with videos and manuals: HERE

Maytag ice maker makes ice cubes but when its time to eject, either a cube gets stuck in between the rake or it gets frozen up and you hear the gears trying turn. You will see a frozen mess or cubes and...

I would first try turning the temperature down on your freezer before considering buying any parts. Your ice is freezing before it is reaching the position to dump in the bin. Also, if you have any items packed around the area where you ice maker is, try to free up a little space around it. If that does not work I would call the manufacturer, they will be more than happy to walk you through any problems you may be having with there products.
