Question about Acer P221W LCD Monitor

1 Answer

ACER P221W No display and power light blinking

Initial symptom was the monitor would not come on, but the computer was running. I knew this because I was running a networked printer off the system. A couple of days later, the computer seemed to die as well. Disassembled the computer and found the fan on the video driver card smoked, thus my thoughts led to the video card, nvidia 8500, so I pulled it since I also have an on board video interface. When removing the card, the computer came back up, but the monitor still seemed dead, with the blinking power light. Tried to hook the monitor up to my laptop still an no go. Wondering if it might be something simple on the monitor, or if I need to just put it six feet under and install a RIP tombstone.

Pulled the monitor apart this morning, working through the maze of snapping plastic - wow. Everything on the power supply card looks fine. Checked the output voltages, all 4 of the 5V outputs are good. My thoughts are leaning toward your call on the video card. What is the best course on the video driver board, with all the surface mount technology? Try to repair or replace? Is this something that you may be able to provide/repair? Hello,

You have a monitor with a common problem. After a few years some LCD monitors will blow a power supply. The problem is caused by parts called capacitors overheating in the confined space of he monitor. If you are good at electronics repair/soldering you can usually fix he problem. Check out a few pictures on my web site www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm You can take the back cover off your monitor and look for the bad parts, replace any that look like the pictues and your monitor should work fine. The capacitors do need to be installed with the correct + and - connections, note the stripe on the old one and insert the new one the same way. If you don't want to try the repair yourself we offer a repair service for $35 plus shipping. If the monitor does not have any bad caps then I would be that when the video card died it sent a spike to the monitor and killed the driver board. I hope this helps, if so please rate my solution.

I have a acer.x223w when,it powers up the.screem stays black, n i get a blue blinking light on.the bottom

I disagree with ikkenom only due to the symptom of the flashing blue light. This would indicate to me that the monitor is not getting any display signal and is in sleep mode at least the is what happens on my Samsung monitor. Used to be that they use a two color led in the monitor, green when ON and getting display signal and amber or orange when in sleep mode. I would check the computer by trying a different monitor. If you have a second monitor, great, if not, maybe a friend will let you bring your computer over and try the computer with their monitor. Could also be a display adapter setting. Do you get any change when you first turn on your computer? i.e. Do you get the BIOS or manufacturer screen when first turned on? Also if you disconnect the monitor cable from the computer and power cycle the monitor, do you get a No Signal display for a few seconds before the monitor goes black and the blue light starts flashing?

Let me know what happens with the testing above or if you need further instructions to carry out testing.

Thanks, Jim

I have a p215hlcd monitor and cant find the off\on switch?

Look "underneath" the bottom-centre of the display.
Look for a "silver" coloured button at bottom-right of the face.
Look for a "rocker" switch along the right-side edge.

Or, ask a pre-teen girl who wants to update her Facebook. :-)

I would like to know how to dim the light /screen on acer p221w monitor. It is very bright and i would like to know how to dim it

You should have some buttons on the front of the monitor, one of them is probrably a menue button which should allow you to adjust alot of the monitors settings from within there.

You can always download a manual by googling your monitors model number for exact instructions.

Screen resolution for Acer P221W

1680x1050.
It also depends on the video card how high the resolution can go.
That's the max resolution though.
Here's the complete specs for your monitor.
