Dial hard to move

I have the Kodak EasyShare DX4530 Digital Camera. It has become very hard to move the dial on the top of the camera. At the moment, I cannot get it to move at all. It is set in the off position right now. Is there some way to fix this, or is it shot? Thanks!

Re: Dial hard to move

I had same problem.I got a new camera but wife likes this one.Decided I would try to fix.there are 9 very small phillips screws around sides and on the bottom of case .you need very small jewlers type screw driver. Some are longer tha others so draw a picture so you can get them all back in correct places.after removing all screws spread the body at the bottom top has small pivot connectors that will open when body is ****.the front and back are now connected by two small cables ,these donot have to be disconnected.the dial on top is made up of two disks and a small spring held together by another small screw .remove screw and look for any thing that is binding ,mine was a piece of worn plastic .I removed and saw how the pieces went back together.I added alittle grease to spring sides reassembled camera put back batteries and mem.card had to reset date ,but now back working like new .Hope this helps.

Faulty dial switch?

Go to a good electrical component store like The Source and buy a can of Switch Contact Cleaner and spray it into the dial making sure you remove the batteries first. Then give the dial half a dozen turns each way. Leave it for 30 minutes and then re-install the battery.

Sometimes you need to move your grip on the camera, so your fingers are not near the dial when shooting.

I checked to see if there was firmware available for free download. Unfortunantly not. The alternative is a KODAK repair for this fault.
However due to spare part shortage this model is no longer repaired. Instead KODAK offers a trade up option where you will have the opportunity to trade up to a newer model 25-30% cheaper than the market price.

Mode dial on my Kodak DX6490 camera is hard to turn!

dissmantle the back case (watch for 1 hidden screw under rubber covers), lift plate on back of lcd screen, remove screw on back of dial, clean where it sits on both sides (most probably from a liquid spill...tea, coffee...) , apply some lube with a cottonbud ore a bit of tisue and rebuild.
hope this helps

Kodak EasyShare Z730 mode dial

Does the "unlock" button depress? When my dial seemed to freeze, or turn very hard, I lightly coated a small piece of newspaper with petroleum jelly (both sides) and slid it all around under the dial. This lubricated the plastic and made it turn freely. Good luck!
