I have replaced parts in my icemaker several times and decided several years ago to just stop using it and make ice the old fashioned way. I want to disassemble the icemaker and remove it completely to free up additional space in the freezer. Will this affect the cooling efficiency of either my freezer or refrigerator?

Remove the white cover in front of the ice maker by pulling straight toward you. There is a white gear made of plastic that might broke off, you probably have to replace motor module assembly. My Roper ice maker quit making ice and found the problem, I'm shopping for cheaper part replacement which is being secured by 3 screws.

I had the same problem with a top freezer. I found that the thermostat was bad by tapping on the it at the setting knob. The defrost timer was replaced first which did not help (repairman put in a timer for a Frigadair which will not work in a Roper). If one is used for a frigadair as soon as it cycles it will not work again until it is unplugged and allowed to reset. I replaced both the thermostat and the right defrost timer. It has worked great for over 2 months.
Hope this helps.

This is a compressor issue. Its probably done.
SOURCE: Fridge is not cool. Freezer has soft ice buildup inside
Losen up the 2 screwws on the back inside of freezer.
push the back slash up and pull down on the top of the plastic fan cover, thats the secret getting the fan cover off its a snap on. Don't break it. but once the cover is off you can see your frozen ice hole under the condenser I used a hair dryer (not recomended near water)and it got the ice melted. worked great.
No more bad milk,,Saved big bucks with alittle good advice, thanks
SOURCE: freezer working fine (no ice buildup), refrigerator warm
make sure your cond under ref is clean allso check your door gaskets if its getting moisture in it i have seen the damper stick from ice from door gasket and when your defrosting evap its clearing damper
