It is normal for water to run from the freezer to the bottom of the refrigerator during the automatic defrost cycle. But it is supposed to run into a catch pan and be evaporated by the hot air being pulled over it by the small evaporator fan on the bottom of the unit.

If water is not going into the catch pan, and instead is running out of the evaporator down the side of the liner, it will most likely end up on the floor instead of in the catch pan. If this is the case, drain your line could be stopped up with an accumulation of algae. To clean it out, find the drain plug in your freezer and pour a cup of diluted bleach into it. Pour it very slowly, because if the line is completely stopped up, it will not seep out and thus cannot get to the point of blockage.

If the drain is completely blocked, try using a can of compressed air (like is used to blow off computers and such), forming as tight a seal as you can between the air tube and the drain. If this fails, it might be time to call the repairman.

There is one more thing that might give the appearance of water 'leaking' and that is if the condenser fan is not properly pulling air over the drain pan to dry up the water from a self-defrost cycle (which normally occurs every 24 hrs). In this case, cooling will also be severely affected, since insufficient air flow over the condenser coils will make the condenser far less efficient.

Finally, and maybe you shoud try this first if you're sure the drain line is not stopped up: CLEAN THE BOTTOM COILS of dirt and lint accumulation. I can't tell you how many refrigerators I've worked on that needed nothing more than to have the condenser coils in the bottom of the unit cleaned. Restricted air flow over these coils is THE number one cause of refrigerator inefficiency or failure. By a HUGE margin.

What to check when your refrig. cools ok but leaks water from freezer

The cause of that drip is going to be a blocked defrost drain in the freezer and the water from the defrost is pooling up in the freezer then when it can't hold anymore it's dripping through the vent in the ceiling of the refrigerator onto the shelfs. By removing the back wall of the freezer you could find the drain on the bottom of the freezer coil. By GENTLY peircing that frozen drain at a 45 degree angle until a small hole is formed in the built up ice it could be totally flushed using warm water once a small opening is made in the ice in the drain.

Do you have a thin layer of ice in bottom of freezer? If so, its a clogged drain - drain located "behind" back wall in "freezer" side (bottom).
If not, may be a broken or leaky water line or water valve - best serviced by an appliance repair technician... GL

Condensate dripping from the freezer through the openings in the top of the refrigerator ( behind the light). Do i need to defrost? Also get some water that sits in the bottom of the freezer.

Hello,

It sounds to me like your refrig. is defrosting as it's suppose to automatically but the drain in the freezer is blocked so instead of the defrost water water running through the drain to the pan in the bottom of refrig, where it evaperates and you don't need to empty the pan, instead of that since freezer drain is blocked so the water is running into the fresh food compartment.

Water and ice slowly disapeared

When your refrig. is operating , The cool air is dehydrating the surrounding area inside. You will find if you leave a ice tray with water in the freezer for a month. There will be nothing left. This moisture ends up in drip tray on bottom refrigerator . Which evaporates into air outside the refrig..

WATER DRIPPING FROM TOP OF REFRIGS MAIN COMPARTMENT

The drain is clogged.

This water should be going down the drain to a pan under the ref.

The drain starts under the cooling coils in the freezer but can be clogged anywhere. Some models will have access in the main ref in the top - rear, a small cover can be removed. Some will have access on the back of the ref. you can see the drain tube and an elbow where it come out of the ref. remove the elbow and check for clogs.

UNPLUG REFRIG. Empty freezer. Wipe interior dry. Check defrost hole at back of freezer & clean out as much as you can. Pull out refrig. Take off back cardboard cover. Lie on floor and look in. Bottom right under the defrost hole there is a black rubber hose that empties into a drip tray. Black mold grows inside and plugs it up. Get a thin aquarium brush and push it up the tube to clear it. Put the tube back into the tray to drain. Put everything back. Plug it in. Fixed.
