Question about Acer Aspire 5100 Notebook
Hi my hubbys computer has pissed out and no longer will do anything, I've tried al the normal routes and even some new ones I was told to try.
Finally gave up and gave it to someone else to solve the problem. Problem seems to be that the Hard drive Drivers have dissappeared....
Ok then, We bought this laptop brand new from the former Circuit City, it came in a box with NOTHING. NO cd's, no real paper work, nothing. Which kinda scared the **** out of me right up front. We had this almost a year and the darn thing died and the "tech" people replaced the hard drive and again sent NO paperwork or recovery or nothing!
So now we've owned it almost 2 years and the warranty is gone and I refuse to pay for a damn driver install. Can anyone tell me where I can find the drivers for this? I've looked, I cant find them, maybe I am looking in the wrong places?
Thanks in advance!
You don't need a hard drive driver, this is taken care of by the BIOS.
If the hard drive has disappeared then it is most likely the hard drive is dead. Go into the BIOS configuration to see if it has detected the hard drive, if it is not detected that is why the laptop won't bootup.
To confirm or check if the hard drive is faulty, remove the hard drive and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and connect it to a working computer's USB port (you may need assistance from a computer savy friend).
If this computer cannot see this as an external drive then it is faulty. If the computer can see this drive as an external drive and you can open the folders and files on the hard disk then the hard drive is OK and the fault is probably a faulty disk controller on the laptop. This cannot be fixed as it is part of the motherboard and the moherboard needs to be replaced and this may not be a cost effective solution. It may be better to put your money towards a new computer.
