Question about Dell Inspiron 1501 Notebook
DVD RW keeps snagging up on laptop start up and prevents the boot from going any further.
Once Booted up is temramental in operation.
Is this a hardware issue or a driver or bios issue.
Should note have followed the boot command lines and when it snags up on the DVD gives a random set of charecters (about 20 - 30) after the ATPI DVD.
Hardware related probably cause it sounds like the main board inside of that drive is having problems communicating with the motherboard since thats where it connects to.
I would still reset the defaults in the BIOS though to make sure its not a setting that is affecting the drive. If it still acts up then you know its not a BIOS issue.
Get another known good working dvd-rw drive in there then turn on the laptop and that should stop the system from doing the weird lockups, slowdowns etc. Plus when you go into the BIOS it should see the drive as it is properly as well.
