The water is supposed to drain from the catch pan under the freezer coil that is defrosting, to a catch pan under the refrigerator. There is a hose connecting the two pans. This hose is stopped up with a common slimy growth and needs a wire or ideally a brush on a flexible cable run up inside it to clear the problem.

That's the automatic defrost cycling. The water collects at the bottom and drains into a flat pan underneath for eventual evaporation.

Water is always laying on shelves and under vegetable drawers, drain pan is dry, has ice maker, but we do not have it hooked up. This is located in our basement in a pantry.

Hello,

That water is coming from the defrost cycle ..their is a drain that usually drains that water into a pan in the bottom of the ref.but that drain is blocked so the water is dripping inside from the vents in the ceiling of the refrig.
This tip i wrote will help ya to clear that blocked drain.

Why is water leaking inside the refrigerator. found water in back on all levels.

You probably have a frozen drain if its a top freezer. The water from the defrost cycle will drip down into the ref section. The easiest fix would be to shut the unit down for 24 hrs with the doors open. The other option would be removing the back panel and using a turkey baster shooting hot water down the drain line until it thaws. Good luck _MJ_

General Elec. refrig. about 12 yrs. old. water in bottom of frig., cleaned up, found water a second time.

drain is cloged. at some point the ref section was set too cold. the defrost water from freezer drains through the ref back wall. becaust it was set too cold the drain froze. two ways to fix .... empty unit and unplug for 24 hrs. OR remove back panel, defrost drainrail, remove bottom panel ,remove ice, insert 1/4 inch tube down drain, and squirt very hot water down drain till it is clear of ice..... when defrosted set ref on "3"

GDS20SBSBSS FREEZER DRAWER WON'T OPEN

ice will most likely form again.you have a defrost problem.most likely it is your defrost heater.their are a few things that control your defrost cycle.defrost timer, thermostat and defrost heater.most of your newer ref. will also have a control board on the back of ref. or under ref in a usually grey box.but check your heaters first.you will need to take the back panel off in freezer.you will see heater at the bottom of coils.if you have a set of meters you can check for continuity to heater.also your drain below heater sounds clogged.i usually steam out drain but you can use hot water.water should go down drainwhen unclogged.that will prevent the drawer from sticking.

Every few days a stream of water comes out

The defrost heater is working, but the drain is blocked with ice. Every time the ref. goes into defrost the water does not drain down to the pan underneath the ref. You will need to remove the inside back cover in freezer and remove all the ice that has built up. you will need to defrost the ice with boiling water until the drain opens. then you will need to attach a heat probe to the heater and down into the drain. Usually you can use a piece of copper or aluminum wire to attach to the heater.
