One can only venture a guess on this one: your hard drive is partitioned into C: and D:. Physically, there's only one drive, but it might have been split into 2 separate partitions. I'd go from there.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600. The DVD drive has stopped working, It works correctly with a lens cleaner disc. but when I try any other disc I get the following message '' windows cannot read from...

Load a CD in the drive then go to My Computer and right click on the drive letter. Now click on explore and see if it opens the folders on the CD. If it can not read the CD files then you may need to replace the drive. Check that the driver is properly loaded and windows recognized the drive properly. Control Panel-System-Hardware-Device Manager then select the CD Drive to see the status of the driver. If it has an error you may need to replace the driver. Another thing to do is go into the Bios setup when starting the computer and see if the Drive is recognized properly. While you are in the Device Manager look at the tab for "Region" which should be set for Region 1. If it is not set for 1 it would cause this problem. Good Luck

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 which seems to be locked up

If you don't hear the hard drive spin up, it's more than likely that the memory sockets (one of the two) have gone bad. The other LED's are HDD, CD-ROM, and WiFi antenna on. Try running the laptop with only one memory chip installed - that'll verify it. Won't fix it, though. It's a very quick and easy fix for me but I'll have to get my hands on your computer: my email: imperfect.solutions@gmail.com.

Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600 says "D drive is low on memory"

The laptop contains only disk drive, no room for a 2nd drive. You have a 20Gb hard drive and it is partitioned as 2 drives.
You may be able to Ghost the D drive and put the disk image on the C drive, but it may work and boot up on the C drive..
Setting up a laptop is no different in setting up a desktop computer except a little bit more work is involved in installing the device drivers. The device drivers are specific for the version of Windows just like a desktop, but you need to download the drivers specific to your model laptop from the Toshiba WEB site
Normally you would install the Windows operating system on the C drive together with the programs etc. and the D drive to hold your data files.
If you have installed Windows operating system on the D drive and the laptop bootup OK and you don't want to reinstall Windows on the C drive, then I would put the Swap Page file on the C drive. This should free up enought diskspace on the D drive to do a Disk Cleanup and a Defrag. I would also move your data files from the D drive to the C drive to give you more space on the D drive.
If it was me, I would re-install Windows on the C drive, together with the drivers and programs etc.

Problem upgrading RAM on a Sate Pro 4600

Just a few questions first, get back to me (before rating me), and I'll see if I can get you through this. You have tried each 256 chip individually in each slot with the same error, correct? Are the 256 chip the same make? What operating system are you running? And finally, at least for now, have you done any drive, utilities, or bios firmware updates lately?

Satellite pro 4600 windows 98 fatal error

What OS are you running on the system? Did you recently install any hardware? If there is a recent hardware install, remove it and try powering on the system on.

If this fails, then you'll need the restore CDs/DVDs from the manufacturer. This will bring the laptop to it's factory default installation. Before doing so, I recommend purchasing a hard-drive enclosure for a laptop hard-drive and backup all important data.

Hope this helps :)
