The most likely the TV has a power supply related problem. It maybe a blown fuse inside the TV.
I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet.
If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route.
If not under warranty and If you have some electronic experience, you can purchase a Service Manual over the internet and diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists. Usually, cost under $20.

Symptoms of a Defective or dying Power supplies on LCD TVs. 1. Light(s) on the front panel are behaving not normal example, blinking, amber color or not steady, fainting, etc. 2. TV not turning ON properly. 3. TV turns OFF by itself. 4. Needs to be unplug to many times to make it work. 5. Humming or high pitch noise heard through speakers or at the back of the TV. It appears like the 5VDC is low from the power supply adapter. This voltage becomes low due to defective capacitors inside the power supply.

i have one of these akai 27 inch with dvd, i had a similar issue i found a power supply at auction and exchanged it and it works fine now, normally with this symptom your power supply is fualty. if the light goes green and you have no picture then you know other boards are fualty

SOURCE: Red standby light is on,
Tries unplug,replug the tv about hour later,let the tv resetting itself back to factory setting.The tv should work now.Not,than the power supply board have problems,that the board where the power a/c cord plug into it.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy a refurbish power supply board for the replacement.
