Question about V-Moda Vibe Headphones

2 Answers

In-ear Headphones Ok, so one day I was going to listen to some music and realized that the vocals in the song were EXTREMELY quiet. At first I thought it was the jack because I could move the plug around and the sound would come back, but eventually all my music sounded like instrumentals.. So I tested some other headphones out, but they worked fine. I don't know if this is a problem with the speakers and the wires inside or the plug. Could somebody please help me out on this? Thanks. I'm not really sure what company the earphones are, but I think they are v-moda..

The thing is, I never turned my ipod up more than half-way.. Is there any physical way i can tell if it's a problem with the plug or the speakers? Thanks for the answer though.

Same problem, not a 'speaker problem" from blowing them out. Try just pushing the jack until you feel resistance and maually hold the jack. You should hear "almost all the music and vocals'. Validates the transducers are ok. Some sort of wiring problem shorting to mic.

It is becomming clear that V-Moda has/had some serious QC problems with wiring conections in the early models, especially those for the iPhone. I bought mine with the "credit" from Apple when the price drop occured. The vocals disappearing is one I have and I have seen in almost epidemic proportions on the internet.

I asked V moda what they could do about it and basically the answer was "If in warranty, blah, blah, otherwise you are out of luck." I am going to disasemble mine and I bet there is some short in the jack wiring or mic that is causing R+L to cancel out R-L in the stereo imaging. It is causing the phone "player" to send the signal to ground. I was poking around with my meter and found some interesting impedance readings that make me think taking out the mic and bypassing it may solve the problem. Proved by partial insertion of the jack and not seating the mic conection.

Big issue here is the build quality of Vmoda and their cavalier support and sales group. This is a VERY fragille product with regard to handling. I seriously doubt the apple devices could clip a sgnal into the units. They would also need a crossover of some type that turned the distortion into a square wave and routed it to "nonexistant tweeters". LOW POWER (and resultant clipping) kills more speakers/transducers than any high power (clean) amp. I used to run Bob Carvers 1,500 watt/channel amp into speakers rated at 100 watts-never a problem. The problem is with the speakers. You probably blew them out. This can happen by making the volume to loud on your ipod or mp3 player.

Can't hear myself talk

Dan, You should be able to hear yourself inside your head as the small hairs that vibrate in fluid in your ear canal will pick up your vocalizations. In any case you know what you're saying and it shouldn't be a problem talking to someone.
Now if you're listening to music really loud on those headphones and still need to hear yourself think, I suggest you turn down the volume. :)

So when I listen with my headphones now, they only play the background music (if that makes sense). The music is almost echo-y and sounds far away. I rarely get the main music/singer, and if I do hear...

It sounds like this might be a setting on whichever MP3 player, or sound device that you are using. You should check for an "EQ" on your device and try setting it to a different setting to make it so you can hear the music and vocals of a song.

Please let me know if you have any other questions about this,

Could be possibly dirt in Ipad headphone jack (common prob) - put a drop of isopropyl alcohol in Ipad jack - just a drop. You might also check headphones in a computer jack to verify if it is possibly the headphones.

From the main menu, go to settings and click on the tab: EQ
You can change the style of your music & includes things like: vocal booster.

Music loud, voice low-pitched

Found your question due to having the exact problem you described. New firmware, format... loaded new music, same problem. While switching to yet another set of headphones the sound got better momentarily. The case doesn't appear loose, but squeeze right next to the lcd and lyra name and the audio was fixed. For some reason the audio was mechanical sounding and the voice was almost non-existant unless pressure was placed on the player where described. I tightened the screw in the retaining strap hole and the one under the USB connector flap and all is well for now. Good Luck!!!!
